Tortorella is God Emperor. If he says no trade, what can the GM and President who were hired as his underlings do?

I'm reminded of Atkinson the other week saying Tortorella has involved himself in contract negotiations to make sure the player is treated fairly. So, Seeler's agent has a friend on his side.

The Flyers thinking of players like Seeler like theyre foundational piece has, and will continue to be their achilles heel.
Idk about “foundational piece”, but with his particular skill set, the lack of similar players on the left side (both on the flyers and in our pipeline) and the fact that he’d be a perfect stable pairing for Drysdale to hopefully flourish next year the way Walker did this year, we could do a lot worse than Seeler.

The years and the AAV have to make sense though.

I also haven’t heard of Seeler having the type of standalone value in a trade where I’d say “we absolutely have to move him!” I’ve seen his value mostly linked to Walker as a pair and only certain teams seemed / seem interested in that. The rest presumably are looking at just Walker.

The way he talks about Seeler youd think he was a norris candidate.

Yup more try hard bull shit. 30 year old will never be more than a #6 (barley one at that) locker room warrior. I wish skilled guys were good for the locker room. I bet Edmonton hates having McDavid.

Still think they move Walker. Other than that maybe they sell one more asset and could see them buying low on a backup on an expiring deal. Maybe someone like Driedger from Seattle that won’t have much of a market.

Barely hanging onto a playoff spot, the WC gap is widening, and three teams in the division have a legit shot of overtaking them for the final spot, but they can't trade Seeler because of the "room". Best case scenario is a 6 game loss to Carolina in the first round with or without Seeler, Laughton, etc.

With enough Nick Seeler’s you can win a Cup.

That’s why the Flyers have won so many Cup’s in the last 50 years.
IF they keep him (and that’s still a big IF), I think it’s more about him helping Drysdale develop than us winning the cup during Seeler’s extension.

Give Drysdale the same stability Walker had this year and let him focus on being that rover.

I can't wait until that blows up in their face. He is just a vanilla player with who has to go at 110% just to be average, which is not sustainable. That fact that all those blocked shots have not broken anything yet is another unsustainable part of his game. So, by all means, overpay him like they do everyone else. At some point, we are not going to be able to sign a really good player because of all the overpaid vanilla on this team.

Vanilla is Flyer hockey.

Sometimes I’d like to know for those that support or cheer for it. Is it really nostalgia, and nothing else?

They are laughed at as a team (by outsiders) far more often than celebrated these days. At least from my experience.

The common comment is “what are they doing”.

Started following the team in the early 70s and from then through 2004, the good times far outweighed the bad. From 72-73 through 03-04, 14 final 4 appearances, 7 trips to the SCF and of course, 2 Cups.

Even the period from 2005 through 2012 was at the very least, entertaining. The last decade plus has been a horror show for the most part, but the habit is a hard one to break. As a diehard Philly pro sports fan, I’m sadly used to lots of suffering.

Well these are the guys that also fell in love with Brandon Manning.
As Whitey said about a different sport, “Hard to believe, Harry.”

Walker looks good still, but Seeler has fallen off a bit anyway. Not sure why he is seen as a good player to retain. Walker wants way too much money and term too.

Let’s not Fletcher it and overpay when we could sign them in the offseason with more reasonable comps.

If they want to keep seeler I'm not upset losing the 4th Rd pick walker should get us second and that's useful for the rebuilding team
Getting some of these young guys exposed to playoff hockey has some value to it.

Seelsy is perfect candidate to get long term deal so his AAV is lower and he is still here 5 years from now when he is cooked and costs this team every time he laces them up. Now on the other hand if they let him go they'll sign another Schultz, Braun, Staal in his place anyway.

My thing with Seeler is that he’s a third pairing defenseman and should be compensated as such-three years at two million per is the top rate for a player like that. Unfortunately these guys get to thinking that they’re second pair players and want to get near four million a year. At that point they’re over their skates. Best to let them go and use up the cap space. The Flyers have a habit of overpaying down the roster defensemen. CIP-Risto, AMac, TDA and others. That has to stop.
