In my opinion you have to listen to the full interview for context. The way I interpreted it is that Jones expressed there is a delicate balance between telling the fan's its a rebuild and keeping players' moral high. If I recall correctly, in one segment of the interview Jones was asked if he thought the team was a Stanley Cup Playoff contender (or something along those lines) and Jones said "no". Then the radio host asked if he'd tell that to the players and Jones responded roughly "I'd tell them that what I just said is BS".

I'm giving Jones the benefit of the doubt that externally he has to tell the fans its a rebuild while internally he has to tell the players that we are going to the playoffs and we are going to make a run. Ultimately it'll come down to how many UFAs are traded away at the trade deadline that will determine which path they were on and to whom they were not telling the truth to, the fans, or the players.

Just playing devils advocate here. As far as I am personally concerned every UFA should be traded to help the team in the future. It'd be awesome if we could weaponize our cap space too and get back some expensive yet serviceable players on short-term deals. If we stand pat and don't make any trades I'll be severely disappointed. I want my cake and to eat it too, I'd love a playoff run and picks in the upcoming draft/s.
I mean, you're probably right that the team has to handle public messaging and the message to the players differently, but I love the idea that this plan assumes either the players or the fans are to stupid to realize they are the ones being coddled. Like, "I'm going to lie to one side, and they won't know I'm lying"?

Sure

It’s tough to take you seriously as anything other than an agenda driven hater of the Flyers leadership when you try to spin Laughton REMAINING as an assistant captain as evidence they won’t trade him.

Two new members of leadership were named a few weeks ago… Coots (C), Konecny (A). Laughton has worn an A for a long time now. Nothing changed. They could’ve stripped the A I guess, but I can’t imagine stripping a guy of his letter would do much for your bargaining position with other teams.
Sorry I don't suck on the tit of Flyers leadership.

You choose to believe a REBUILDING TEAM, had a great offer for Laughton, but didn't trade him for mysterious reasons, made him the only guy with a letter, then weeks before the deadline, announce the new leadership group and have him in it....but then are going to trade him?

Reality is a REBUILING TEAM with a good offer for Laughton, should have traded him already. But they didn't. Tell us why.

I'm not going to get too worked up about what Jones said. I don't think it proves anything one way or another as far as the idea of rebuilding goes. The only thing I think it really is is an admission by Jones that they either lied to the players or the fans, and if they're lying to the players, that's understandable - though I don't know why you'd publicly admit it.

I'll take a page out of @JojoTheWhale's playbook and say that Seeler and Walker are the low hanging fruit. Those are the moves that every GM should be getting right. The harder to swallow moves, ie, trading Laughton last draft, moving Konecny and/or other guys who are useful now and probably for a few more years in the future - those are the ones that really tell you if they're rebuilding. You can't rebuild just by selling off spare parts and expiring contracts. You have to make some moves that hurt now with the eye on getting better in the future.

And no, that doesn't mean trade everyone and tank necessarily. It just means trying to line up the primes of the majority of your roster so they all happen at the same time.
thats like 4D chess to this Org.

0.0% they can pull moves of that level off.

If you’re actually asking, I think the deal might not have been as good as Seravalli “reported”. I use the word “reported” in quotes because he mentioned it in passing in the closing minutes of a podcast and then never referenced it again in print, on twitter, or in another pod/show appearance.

I think it’s also incredibly likely the Blues (the rumored team interested in Laughton) only wanted/needed one forward and were only willing to move one FRP. So Danny may have had to choose between pursuing the Sanheim/Hayes framework and the Laughton framework.

I’ll wait till the deadline to make a judgement. Laughton should be gone.

Completely meaningless such that he had to issue a statement through the new team Twitter mouthpiece today.

Lol, had had to "issue a statement?" A beat writer said he talked to Jonesy who said he was joking, which anyone with a pulse, even if you didn't know who Jonesy was or never heard of him, knew. I absolutely love this place. Someone from the Flyers says something that we want them to say: YEAH RIGHT THEY ARE LYING THIS IS BS WE KNOW THEY ARE LYING. Someone from the Flyers makes an obvious joke about something we don't want them to say: OMG HE IS SERIOUS THIS TERRIBLE HOW COULD HE SAY THIS!

Things like calling this Jonesy being forced to "issue a statement" is why I am saying this is being overblown.

I wonder if there’s a chance that Perfetti is available.
With how well Winnipeg is playing and their low attendance a deep run could really help revitalize that building again. Perfetti currently getting 4th line minutes seems to be in and out of Bowness dog house all year. The conditions are there for a perfect storm. If I was Danny I’d call often.

Hypothetically speaking, if you were a GM and your peak performance level allowed you to make 17 calls per day, how many of those 17 calls would you allocate to trying to acquire Perfetti?

Hypothetically speaking I feel that I would only be able to make 17 calls on the day of the actually deadline. The days leading up to the deadline I’d only have a max of 7 calls and at least 1 would be dedicated to Perfetti. I would up my call volume by 10 on deadline day to show “I tried”

This “deal” makes no sense. A first for Laughton at the same time that supposedly another first was involved with the Sanheim/Krug deal. That means that either the Blues were offering a first rounder for Laughton and Sanheim which Briere rightfully turned down or the Blues were offering a first rounder for each player which I find doubtful. Some of these rumored offers never seriously happened.

There was a moment during the STL episode where rumors were that the deal was a massive exchange of players with Jordan Kyrou’s name even coming up at one point. I honestly think it might have been a Gauthier deal in addition to the other players.

Gauthier, Sanheim, Laughton, and Hayes for 10th overall, Kyrou, and Krug seems like it would have fit the hype that people were going on about at the time.

Frank mentioning that Walker is looking for $5m/yr for 3 or 4 years.

He thinks Briere is looking for a 2nd round pick-plus, similar to Tanev

I’d rather work with Winnipeg for Lambert. They could use what the Flyers have to offer. The Flyers get the young center that they need. Laughton and Walker for Lambert and Schmidt. Flip Schmidt with some retention for a pick.
