I listened to Charlie’s recent podcast today he was actually somewhat critical of the thought process of re-signing Seeler. He essentially said he doesn’t see many pathways where there’s upside to the Flyers doing it going forward given the contract to retain him & it would potentially sow up your top six defensemen for next year. He said even if Seeler somehow becomes a #7 you’re probably gonna be investing like $2.5-3M to have him sitting in your press box mostly on top of the $5.1M you have on the third pair with Ristolainen. He said if you Ristolainen he could be talked into it but doesn’t really envision that happening so he’s not on board for bringing Seeler back.

He said probably over half their roster could characterized as “culture guys”. So he essentially you can’t keep tapping into the well to justifying or not justifying doing something that could be unfavorable to outlook of roster building going forward as it eventually adds up. He said you’re already overpaying Ristolainen & Deslauries for culture reasons then you passed up on moving Laughton for good trade value because of culture.

Forget where I saw it, but other sources say Flyers aren't considering an extension right now.

Briere is probably waiting to see what happens over the next six weeks, how the team plays, how the AHL D-men play, if Zamula can continue his improvement, Drysdale stay healthy, before making decisions.

I would agree that Zegras is not worth discussing here. There's no chance the Flyers would be interested.

Not b/c of the Michigan, Michkov has a couple of those already, but b/c Zegras is awful on defense.

If Frost keeps playing like this, Flyers just need a 3C in the short-run (maybe Rizzo) and a prospect who can develop into a top 6 center in 2-3 years.

if they’re trading for someone, it’s going to be like an Eichel situation of perfect player perfect time similarly to Drysdale.

If Sam Reinhart makes it to UFA, I expect them to be in the mix there.

I hope we can trade for Sam Reinhart in 2021 or Jack Eichel in 2021.

I kind of hate the thought of signing a 28-30 year old to a long term deal. Team is way too volatile right now too. I guess it's better than trading assets away, but the age worries me.

Ristolainen went for more than Reinhart that year...before you factor in what they had to do to make it happen.

Just watched the interview and it has a bit of a different connotation then the tweet above. Torts didn't outright say we are going to sell at this TDL but still emphasized some things that are good to hear such as "we have to do our own work with ... our draft picks, and continue to gain those assets."

The interview is here. He starts talking about this at around the 2:40 mark.

He also said that he recently watched a team that's just starting their rebuild sign a big name FA, and that has caused them to change how they approach their rebuild. Maybe a quiet shot to those that wanted to sign Gaudreau?
