Well, we did draft high the last two years. So that would be the start of it. But like I said, when you’re not spending $12 million on a player, or even two like Edmonton does… Colorado has three or four high-end guys. We’re not going to be built that way. So depth will be important to us.

That’s kind of what we’re doing. You see it up front with some of our young guys kind of starting to come. We have so many young guys. Probably won’t have to pay the $12 million (for a guy), but we’ll pay to have the depth and be able to match Line 1 to 4 with teams.

I believe there’s more than one way to build a Cup caliber roster, but the Flyers apparently believe there is only one. They’re telling you they will not be built on having multiple high end guys. They’re telling you a 4th line is higher on their priority list than having Colorado or Tampa’s core. Not that you can’t win with less — they’re telling you they must win with less. They actively want less.

That’s a feature, not a bug.

Arrogance is the defining hallmark of the Flyers for my entire lifetime. It’s so engrained in the culture of the org that it passed down to the hardcore fanbase. This authentic crap didn’t start in the last 10 years. I can’t speak to anytime before the mid-late 80s, but it’s the one constant since then.

I would keep TK - he seems to be the heart and soul of the team and is only 26.

Hart I'm unsure - I do really like him, and he's only 25. I would lean toward keeping him.

They also need Bonk to become a top paring d-man within 2 years, Couts to be an elite 1C shutdown center well into his 30's, Hart to be a top 10 goaltender, Walker to continue the best play of his career, and also have other teams continue to prevent management from stupid decisions like trading Sanheim for Krug.

ALL of these things need to happen.

Briere & Co. have to be stunned by the play of the club this season. With Coots back and DB shedding some clowns from the roster over the summer, the opportunity for improvement was there. That being said, the club is so weak at center that an eventual collapse in play is obvious. Shaw has been able to gerrymander together a defense but that too isn't going to hold when injuries occur or trades when the potential UFAs refuse to extend.
The Flyers are having a nice run here but that flaws with the club aren't going away. The FO can say whatever they want about a rebuild or tear down. Reality will come and force their hand.
