Yeah he's the odd man out for us and supposedly requested a trade last year - feels like he's being showcased now that he's back in the lineup regularly.

Here's the source for my previous post forgot to include it before:

What a massive blow to the "the senior advisors who Hilferty heaped adoration upon and weren't fired actually won't be involved" crowd.

Well well well

What was he right about?
Elliotte thought the Flyers would be last place in the division and Jeff insisted there’s no way Torts would let that happen. Elliotte thought that the division was a muderer’s row and somebody had to lose the games. Turned out, as usual, that’s Columbus, Buffalo, Ottawa, and Montreal.

No real news here, other than them quipping about whether or not this is an actual rebuild.

"We dont know what we are getting with walker when we traded for him. We are suprised by his development...."!!!!

This is so bad and stupid on so many lvls!!! Its bush league lvl!!!

So he is saying he trades for a player cause the other team needs to get rid of him. Not because he know the x and o´s about him and see some untaped potential in him. Thats why he want to take a chance on him!

OMG this Staff is sooooo bad!

Kind of like New Jersey with Siegenthaler and Marino? Prior to being acquired they had never been placed in the larger roles in which they have flourished (Siegenthaler was being scratched with Washington).

The Flyers likely hoped that Walker could contribute but until the player is placed in a role you never know for sure what he can do.

While I completely believe that a rebuild is necessary, at some point if they keep winning you have to consider changing that stance at least for this season. I'm not suggesting that we should sell off valuable assets for rentals or anything like that. But if they're in the hunt for winning the division as the trade deadline approaches I don't see how you tear it down at that point. If they're in the hunt for a playoff spot that's a different story. Two weeks from now because of how jumbled up the division is at the moment they could be on the outside looking in, but they also could be at or near the top still.

As far as the talk of extending Walker and stuff like that, of course Briere is going to say that. Obviously, he may be telling the truth and they are thinking about extending him, but it's just as likely he's saying that to put that out in the ether for future trade discussions when a team comes calling to make them sweat and add to any potential deal.

Some speculation on the Jets board that you guys are in on Logan Stanley (or someone else on our roster).

Our GM was at your game vs Colorado in person, and tonight Bob Murray and another one of your pro scouts were at our game vs Anaheim.
Schmidt Lambert and a 1st for Risto and Frost who says no? 😏

HE SAID IT! WE DONT KNOW THE PLAYER! AND WE ARE SUPRISED ABOUT HOW HE PLAYS!

Its a totally other story if you use player you think can grow in more important roles and they did indeed grow!

And if you have no idea about the player and you are the GM of a PROFESSIONAL FRANCHISE shut your mouth and fake your knowledge at the time of the trade!! Never ever say something like "we dont know", "i had no idea", "we are suprised" and such shit! Its a bad look! And Briere is doing this time and time again.

Is it smart trading for a player "you don't know"?
Is it smart to have no info on a 28 year old who has been in the league for 5 years?
Is it smart to ignore his 230 game data, and hyper focus on 27 games this season?

Maybe we had no idea who Krug was too.

I'd be a lot happier if the expressed processes didn't make it clear that improvement this year is purely luck.

Flyers are definitely lucky. Being a net + on special teams with such an abysmal power play is straight-up crazy. They should just be very happy their newest young roster players, and the ones a bit older, are getting such a good season under their belts.

Before the season started, I expected regular complaints about Brink, Foerster, Zemula and others simply not playing. In comparison, my biggest complaints about Deslaurier and Stahl still taking up some minutes are minor. And both those players are now, thanks to the play of same youngsters, demonstrably not required for this level of success. When Cates returns, he merits a long look on the 4th line, which has been his forte in the past. And Flyers can continue their experiment playing all their youngsters, with a 50/50 chance of continued season success

I just can't see them passing up on acquiring assets for Walker, and Seeler too. Their remaining defence options would remain adequate for flirting with playoff participation if they value it.

This remains a front office that has to be saved from itself. Walker is likely having a career year, and the chance of that repeating into his 30s is low, so whoever shells out for his next contract should expect to get worse play for more pay. Not to mention Walker's smart move is to go to FA and get a big payout from a team of his choosing.

Seeler should be a no-brainer, either packaged with Walker or on his own for hopefully someone with a 2nd burning a hole in their TDL pocket.

Konecny will be a tougher decision but that next contract is going to be huge. If he were the only big spend, it would be palatable but still a shame to miss out on a 1st++.

Briere interview with Charlie, this is the concerning part. Seems like they are content with Gauthier and Michkov and just need depth like Vegas, Blues etc.

Issue with that is how probable it is you win? Teams getting lucky isn't something you can count on.

PHLY: You mentioned the need for high-end talent. I know from the start – from your very first press conference as interim GM – you made it clear that this was a rebuild, not a tank. But there is an argument to be made that if high-end talent is the biggest need, the best and most efficient way to get it is to draft high. You guys are looking like you’re a lot better than expected – you’re not necessarily looking like you’re going to draft high. How do you get that high-end talent without drafting in the top-10?

Well, we did draft high the last two years. So that would be the start of it. But like I said, when you’re not spending $12 million on a player, or even two like Edmonton does… Colorado has three or four high-end guys. We’re not going to be built that way. So depth will be important to us.

That’s kind of what we’re doing. You see it up front with some of our young guys kind of starting to come. We have so many young guys. Probably won’t have to pay the $12 million (for a guy), but we’ll pay to have the depth and be able to match Line 1 to 4 with teams.

“But like I said, when you’re not spending $12 million on a player, or even two like Edmonton does… Colorado has three or four high-end guys. We’re not going to be built that way.”

Briere sounds like a f***ing moron here. Full stop. Stupefying levels of cocksure stupidity.

I believe there’s more than one way to build a Cup caliber roster, but the Flyers apparently believe there is only one. They’re telling you they will not be built on having multiple high end guys. They’re telling you a 4th line is higher on their priority list than having Colorado or Tampa’s core. Not that you can’t win with less — they’re telling you they must win with less. They actively want less.

Every time I see this shit I just care less and less about this franchise and sport in general.

Everyone on the inside is a f***ing idiot, 99% of Flyers fans are f***ing idiots, and honestly the idea of any of them winning anything of significance and being happy is as unappetizing as it is unlikely. They all deserve bad things.

They’re so f***ed.

Great idea to rely on the depth with the young players now “because they’re not getting paid $12M.” Nevermind the fact that Michkov isn’t coming over for a couple more years and by that time the Tippett contract, while not $12M, will be crippling in it’s own right along with the other “depth”.

Every time they open their mouths.

  • Resign Konecny (currently $5.5 million)
  • Resign Hart (currently $3.979 million)
  • Resign Tippett and Brink to RFA contracts
  • They only have 3 defensemen signed for next season: Sanheim, Ristolainen, York
  • Decision on Poehling
