Jake also confirming that...

AV changed the way they played stylistically on purpose during the Montreal series during COVID to be way more defensive instead of playing the teams natural game.

Not exactly surprising to hear that AV seemingly also just checked out and was collecting a cheque at the end of his time with Flyers.

And that seemingly the Jake and Ghost moves were forced by AV...
I was surprised Jake said they actually prepped for the Habs series to change their style. The first period of Game 1 was no different from the round robin, but AV had them go into full cower mode from then on. Guess the boys went off message to start that game.

Nice to see so much of what so many on here were saying verified.
Jake is the best and definitely missed.

So they didn’t learn the don’t kowtow to your coach lesson. Well, no surprise. Life goes on.
The team giving an asshole coach too much power had it blow up in their face. Instead of learning the lesson "don't cater to dinosaur coaches", management's takeaway was "we didn't pick the right coach".

Oh yeah. New era of orange all right.

Prove it. Bring a source.

Incredible. They’re still so obviously focused on the glory days of yore, recent history gets ignored.

This is bizarre, even for a weirdo like you, 2050. I know you're too much of a chicken shit to call Couturier "ex-selke" here, but referring to Voracek with the name of some baseball guy no one gives a f*** about it, is even dumber.

Voracek was on a team that was trying to contend for a decade, right up until he was traded to CB in 2021. And as soon as he left, the Flyers PP became the worst PP in the league and the 2nd lowest coring team overall.
Don't think Voracek is the reason the PP cratered, actually had a better xGF/60 after he left, 6.73 v his last two seasons here, 6.02 and 6.23. They just couldn't finish in 2021-22, and that was never Voracek's strength (his shot went MIA years before).

*sobbing into my coffee for the 12th consecutive year*

Forward Passing affects shooting percentages too.
Yeah, but that's a big jump in xGF/60.

Just saying it's unlikely his absence was the major problem.

Couts getting injured, G gone, TDA not playing up to his past performance, and so forth.

I would argue that the team missed his NZ abilities quite a bit.

We can play with the sliders on the spread of credit, but that won't make it an insignificant portion. It's a skill that clearly was not valued in that era.

Keep in mind that supposedly Dave Scott was the one who coerced the coaching change. Chuck was only beginning to think about making a change.
I mean, he did lose 8 games in a row, as well as losing the dressing room.

F***ing cowards

The NHL has banned players from using rainbow Pride tape on their hockey sticks.

The NHL sent a memo to teams last week clarifying what players can and cannot do as part of theme celebrations this season, including a ban on the use of rainbow-colored stick tape for the Pride nights that have become a hot-button issue in hockey.

The updated guidance reaffirms on-ice player uniforms and gear for games, warm-ups, and official team practices cannot be altered to reflect theme nights, including Pride, Hockey Fights Cancer or military appreciation celebrations. Players can voluntarily participate in themed celebrations off the ice.

Military support isnt as political right now. NHL is trying to stay out of the culture wars.

Scotty taking a stand could be interesting. Maybe Staal or another vet is very religious and takes issue. Could it lead to a higher probability of him being traded for that sweet rumored package at the deadline?

There were a few players I have enjoyed watching on the ice more than Jake but, as a total package, he's the best there is, best there was, and best there ever will be.

G, Jake and Simmer all on the team at the same time was an embarrassment of riches personality-wise.

Great interview.

Who is this Chris Maher dude?
Highly enjoyable interview.

Is tape color an official uniform thing? I thought players used whatever tape they wanted. Scott should put it on his stick every night, then it won't be part of a "theme celebration."

Rule 10.1

Player’s Stick - (see 10.2 for goal keeper) The sticks shall be made of wood or other material approved by the League, and must not have any projections. Adhesive tape or any color may be wrapped around the stick at any place for the purpose of reinforcement or to improve control of the puck.
