You might have gotten something decent for Hayes at the TDL if he was on a one year deal, because with older players, one year (or last year of contract) presents little risk, you just want two months out of the player, not two years.

The common denominator in all this relationship-shredding drama between important players and Clarke is Clarke. The second Forsberg's agent drove a hard deal Clarke never would have forgiven him, just like he took it personally that McCrimmon wanted to be paid money for being good at hockey.
Clarke was definitely the guy who was ultimately responsible. As GM, he had an obligation to keep that in house and not diminish the value of an asset, but he insisted on (day after day) digging the hole deeper. The idea of saying “no comment” or ignoring the press altogether was alien to him. It was an amazing time.

Then again, the idea that Eric’s parents were just innocent bystanders swept up in Clarke’s maniacal ramblings is a good one that always elicits and hearty ha-ha from me - and people in Sault Ste. Marie, Quebec, and Philadelphia. As a reminder, this was the third organization that the Lindroses demanded a departure from. Three.

do you want change or keep everyone and complain every year?
I hate Hayes.... always have hated that contract and the JVR contract but taking that cap penalty is atrocious.... bench him do whatever unless he improves .... he likely retires as hes played with injuries instead we accommodate him and take the huge hit.... we shouldn't cowtail to underperforming players

Saw some chatter the flyers could possibly be a spot Josh Bailey gets moved to due to his contract. Gotta have a 2nd rounder and a 2024 2nd rounder if that’s the case for that 5M cap hit.

Is the chatter us from the other thread like 20 minutes ago?

Not a rumor, but maybe Colorado uses their extra 1sts to get Laughton. He would be a great fit on a contender the next three years.

Would be a good idea. I'd label them the sure-fire favorite if they grab Laughts.

And lose a retained salary slot for the length of the buyout period, instead of the length of the contract.
FWIW, here's what Puckpedia says on that:

Buyouts of Retained Contracts
If a team retains salary on a player and that player is later bought out by a different team, does the player still count as taking up a salary retention slot after being bought out?

Answer
Jul 20, 2022
Once a player is bought out, the retained cap hit is converted to a buy-out cap hit for the player that was traded/bought-out, and it no longer counts as one of the team's 3 permitted active retained transactions. For example, Ottawa's buyout cap hit for Phaneuf does not count as an active retained salary transaction.

Looking back at capfriendly on the wayback machine, Phaneuf's cap hit was not listed as retained salary at any point after the Kings bought him out, including the two years he would have been playing. However, they were carrying his buyout.

Why couldn't we just have Lappy as stopgap HC. Why the f*** did cuck and boob have to sabotage us with f***ing john tortellini. Torts f***s us out of the top 6, f***s the value of our players even more, and makes it so no one wants to come here. What a joke.

And I was told Sanheim was a 1st pair D-man on the right team.
If he was considered a solid #3, at his age and contract, he'd be worth #18 from a team that has struggled to keep players.
Which suggests that people here have overrated him.

Or of course, this report is full of . . . given the source.

Didn't they waste money on a consulting group for the Tortorella hire?
