It kind of bothers me that this is going to be taken as a shot at York. It’s decidedly not meant that way.

For me, he’s defined by not having “it.” Ever. Not even as a prospect. He looks like he could be an excellent complimentary player. That’s a very good outcome!
Yes. And I like York, but I also see him as a really good complimentary player. The only other person on the blueline that has shown himself to be at least moderately competent in a sizeable role in the NHL is Sanheim, and he seems to be a goner. Looks to me like a pretty awful defense, regardless of how many step forwards any young guys take - assuming they even play much.

Provorov gone & Sanheim looking on his way out one way or another Ristolainen is probably gonna be in their top two for ice time next year on the back end. Hell even Seeler might be elevated into the top four. So things can absolutely get worse on the backend.
It’s a tank and I love it! Just one year too late.

I doubt that. Islanders had a first pair of AMac and Streit.

York is going to be better than Provorov or Sanheim (he has "it"), the others, remains to be seen. Risto is Risto. Seeler is reliable on the 3rd pair.
But Walker can't be worse than TDA, Zamula's time has come, we'll see about Attard, Grans, Andrae, Ginning.
While it won't be a great defense, I don't think it's going to be terrible.
What the f*** has Cam York done??? lets stop being homers here.... One of the biggest mistakes clearly looks like when we all wanted Boldy and Caufield and morons made the trade and took York and Brink....Next year will be the true test for sure as York will be in the spotlight and Brink will have his shot but York has done nothing at all compared to Sanheim or Provy in their first season to say he has "it" is not accurate at least from my viewpoint (i'm not saying he's a bust and perhaps he breaks out but so far he's been ok at best).... Has not looked good nor terrible (in his defense) at anything at all......

But now he's ready to fill sanhiems shoes, that's gotta be one of the worst statements I've heard on here in a while lmao
Interestingly, we don't have to wait until we see how he looks in training camp before awarding him a roster spot, despite the fact Z wasn't ready last season.

"It's not a 'tank', the team is just trading all the good players over 25 and putting an abysmal roster out there. Entirely different."

I'm getting flashbacks to when the rumor mill let it leak that Eagles signed Frank Gore - then the deal fell through when Gore changed his mind since it wasn't official.

This is total balls.

What York does is control the game, he's not flashy, he's not extremely skilled, but even as a rookie he just has "it." What I mean by that is he sees what's going on around him and makes the smart, simple play. And he played well with a variety of partners. Do I think he's a #1? Nah, not talented enough. But he can hold his own in almost any role even if he's not going to excel. He'll get better with experience, but he'll never be big enough to be a physical defenseman, fast enough to pressure defenses, doesn't have the big shot from the point. Nothing that'll grab your eye.

Both Provorov and Sanheim tend to be partner dependent, Provorov played very well with Niskanen, Sanheim with Braun, but both struggled with other partners. Sanheim is flashy, especially skating through the neutral zone when he can use his long legs, but he's not that efficient. Provorov wants to be a #1, but simply isn't good enough, he could be a good #2 with the right partner if he played within himself.

The reason I'd take York over both of them is they both lack something, Provorov never really improved and never showed he could raise a partner's game. Sanheim flashes fluid speed, but it doesn't translate into elite offense, and he'll always struggle with power forwards in the D-zone. I think with both, what you see is what you're gonna get - more than last season when both were mediocre - but neither to me is a building block for a rebuild.

So I just hope for some fireworks on draft night. The last day and a half have been the usual poopshow. But what else should we expect from this franchise?
They'll draft a projected high floor low ceiling middle six forward/second pair defencemen at 7, then pat themselves on the back for the rebuild being complete.

We don't have anything approaching Streit.

We have no reason to believe Zamulas time has come. Of the others, only Gunning may get a shot because of size. Maybe Grans because DB wants to see his new thing.

The Flyers have never made it through an offseason FA period without finding some unnecessary slop either.

Years from now we’ll be ridiculed in manifesto form about how we overrated York and company.
Honestly he could break out as he gets more comfortable it wouldn't shock me if its just a timing issue with him.... gains confidence and his upside starts to shine through..... but so far in the AHL and when he's been up he's really not looked like a first round pick....timid ....cautious would be words i'd use to describe him.....do i see Morgan Reilly/Mcavoy potential yes (he plays a similar style) but to say he's showed any of that yet is a lie imo.... He's probably the player i'm most interested seeing this year.....If he pops will be huge if not...ouch

I think people forget how good Streit was.

I'm sure the Flyers long history of publicly souring on this sort of player won't come into play like it always does!
