Did they try to resign Ghost?

I can't say for certain as I'm not in Carolina's front office.

I do know they gave up a 3rd round pick to acquire him at 4.5m (whereas we gave away a second and seventh to send him off at that cap hit).

A 3rd also seems to be more than we'll get back for DeAngelo at 2.5m (after sending off a 2nd, 3rd and 4th for him and signing him for 5m).

There certainly seems to be a black hole of devaluation around this team.

However, they didn't "acquire him at $4.5M." They acquired him at the TDL, when they knew how much cap room they had to finish out the season, so they could fit the $1.13M under the Cap. So at that point, all that mattered was whether he'd fit, not whether he was worth his salary. That's different than an AVV of $4.5M in September when it could preclude obtaining/keeping other players.

From Charlie's story, it sounds like it's going to be Hayes for a late 1st and a salary dump. That sounds like a great deal.

Am I misreading it? The previous incarnation of the deal included Laughton and Sanheim, but that is no longer the case.

A very late 1st and washed-up Krug at $6.5 million is a bad return for Sanheim and Hayes, and that is without retention.
Hayes for 3 years > Krug for 4 years
Sanheim > 29th OA

I don't know about anyone else but I am not thrilled about the play-by-play details of this trade. Who is blabbing all of this information? Jones, I would wager. Do they really think that this is the way the FO should be doing business? "Here's a selfie of me outside Travis Sanheim's house. Just wait until I tell him we are finalizing a trade with him involved!"

Maybe we will see that this is a very different deal, in which case you can dump all over my post, but the posts seem way too specific all along this saga.
Do you know what the best part about trading away everyone is? Not having anyone left and pulling 3 straight top 5 picks. Trade anyone for anything.

Fwiw the trade isn't going to be Krug and a low first for Hayes and Sanhiem. You're falling into the age old trap of taking what these "insiders" say at face value

Jones is obviously a leaker. I’d bet a testicle he’s been leaking to STG, whether it’s Bundy or ASF for a while now.

It’s nice having some rumors for sure but they have seemingly gone from radio silence with Hextall to a group of gossipy high school girls.

You could just admit you were wrong
Not on this board, you think I'm crazy?

"Anything you post can and will be used against you . . . "

I didn't say Risto was the only mistake, just the only one big enough to have a long-term impact.

TDA was an overpay, both picks and money (which I said at the time :P), but 2nd, 3rd and 4th doesn't set a team back by that much. I mean they also got a 3rd for Braun and a 5th for MacEwen and a 4th for Brassard - those later picks are a dime a dozen. If TDA had played like he did on the Rangers (Carolina was a Slavin artifact), he could probably be flipped for a 2nd or 3rd. And it was only a 2 year contract.

Charlie said at the end of the article it sounds like the deal will only be for Hayes now.

Sanheim will be on the 2nd pair with Faulk, Leddy - Parayko is their first pair.

Leddy is one of the worst defenders in the league. It’s the equivalent of saying Sanheim would be on a 2nd pair behind Andrew MacDonald. He’s a place holder on that pair (Parayko isn’t a beauty himself these days). You know this, so this is all a waste.

You think Torts tanked TDA's value? Torts played him on the first line, PP1 QB, gave him every opportunity to win a permanent spot and angle for an extension in his home town. TDA just screwed the pooch, pure and simple - he's uncoachable. Shaw's a very good AHC, but could get nowhere with TDA, he was making the same mistakes in April that he was in October.

Torts isn't AV. Once you got into AV's doghouse, you stayed. Torts gave players second and third chances to prove themselves, some like Frost, ran with it, some like TDA, earned their spot on the bench.

He absolutely contributed to tanking TDA's value - I don't know how you can even argue that if the basis for most people's answer to him needing to go is "Torts doesn't want him around - everyone knows it"

TDA isn't good - we knew that WHEN WE ACQUIRED HIM - but apparently every GM in the league didn't know that. Why do we need to gift wrap it to them by Torts going on a power trip? How about Torts be part of the almighty Triumvirate of Leadership he's supposed to be and put on a smile regarding TDA so we can get some value as we boot him out the door.

Jumping to conclusions? In deals like this, involving various players and their agents, there are probably multiple leaks, and a good reporter takes info from different sources and figures it out.

We know they want to move Sanheim now. I think he’s worth more than a late 1st. I agree a team like Calgary should be all over this.

Think we need to trade TK for the 9 OA
TK and what? I don't think you'll be able to get picks in the top 10 of this draft without overpaying, maybe if a GM feels there's a big dropoff after #8, but even then, they may figure their 8th best player could fall to #10.

Much more likely is say #17, #42 and a top prospect (Buffalo)

TDA was very good at some things, top PP QB, top offensive defenseman, bottom fifth defensively. Overall positive value.
Carolina wanted to resign him, just not at $5M a year, they saw him as a 3rd pair/PP specialist.

For some reason TDA completely cratered last season, and it wasn't due to Torts, he tried everything, and his scheme should have played into the hands of TDA, it encourages D-men to attack the O-zone. But TDA was constantly out of position defensively, and instead of being in the bottom 20% defensively, he was more like the bottom 1%. And his offense fell off as well.

Scouts and GMs look at film, and the film don't lie.
