The New 32 Thoughts with Elliotte Friedman and Kyle Bukaskas on the Flyers.

-Friedman excited for Michkov, has someone at his gym rubbing it in his face that he’s here early

-Accidentally mentioned ‘keeping Sanheim’ obviously meant Konecny, was harder than they would have liked

-big fan of Ersson, wishes he voted for him for all-rookie team over Kochetkov

-the biggest story is what happens with Johansen. Not necessarily for the Flyers themselves, but the league signed off on his contract termination (which by the way, has not actually happened yet), but the PA really wants to fight this because it’s guaranteed money and feel it’s too big of a win for the league-side if they get what they want.

They’re going through every team so I have to listen to see if they’re mentioned elsewhere
I think they'll quietly work out a settlement.

Players union doesn't like termination of a guaranteed contract, but owners don't want to condone lying about injuries.
So PA will agree to Johansen taking a haircut in return for more certainty with regard to what constitutes a player violation.

Better than a buyout as cap hit won't be spread out. Depending how it goes will they see more in the future?

For me is it really worth say the 2 million they may save on tap for the bad press and optics it has created? I do not think it is as will leave a sour taste in players mouths.

Really hope they don't settle as I want to see what case each party has to present.

Yeah the Owners (who the league always sides with) are very much desperate to find any cracks in the guaranteed contract situation. The Players rightly view it as their biggest asset. This is going to be a fight.

It’s really sounds arrogant on the Flyers part. Not surprising.
It’s the first time he’s really come across arrogant to me since he’s been GM. That is concerning though because it’s not like he’s had any real success in this role yet. I think he’s done a decent job but he’s had one year of GM and doesn’t have anything to hang his hat on yet so not a good look.

Briere will look worse than Fletcher when this is said and done. That's my hot take. Everything that comes out of his mouth is a 5 alarm fire. And it's not media speak -- he acts on it!

It's not even a hot take. He learned the trade from Fletcher. If Fletcher is as bad a teacher as he is a GM then of course Briere will be worse

He is actively being tutored by Fletcher's managerial life partner (who might be worse in his area of "expertise" than Fletcher), while a former TV color commentator, wearing his non-prescription team president glasses, is his boss.

But maybe we're not giving Briere enough credit in that he is really really bad at this too. This is his entire track record, and he is a font of smooth brain quotes.

What's he supposed to say?

"We're heartbroken that Gauthier prefers the West Coast over beautiful South Philadelphia and that Kolosov prefers his hometown over scenic Allentown."

How about this: "We have noticed a trend of numerous players becoming very dissatisfied with our poor treatment of them, and we will correct our incorrect methods to keep ourselves from losing any more talent."

That would be good. Learning from their mistakes. What an idea!

There is a reason the Flyers are the common denominator in all these endless players conflicts. Show they have the very basic awareness needed to notice that, and assure fans they're fixing it. Instead of being proud of their arrogance.
