Flyers need to shed as much of these bad contracts as possible, even if it means eating 50% for 2 or 3 years.
No chance unless there’s a third team to let us move up.One idea floated around by Shark’s fans was taking on the whole contract and the Flyer’s 10th for the Shark’s 14th. San Jose gets an over priced veteran that can help mentor and Philly gets cap full space for whatever. Seems reasonable but Atkinson saying no would obviously trash the thing. Also people hate trading down on this board so there is that as well.
#buckle in...I don't understand why a team that isn't close to contending would prolong cap commitments to players on expiring contracts. Just let that shit expire. If they're serious about turning things around, it'd be better to have a clean slate for 2025.

Play Ry Jo, play Atkinson and ride this year out.
We have more chance of being a bottom 10 teams than we do making the playoffs.
He’s not going to be moved with a pick attached.
And no one’s trading for him at the deadline either since he’s cooked.
The Flyers think you need to have a washed up veteran in the lineup every night. You know culture and all thatImagine targeting EJ again after seeing how atrocious he was !
I wonder if Alexander Wennberg is on their shopping list? Center ice. Former Torts guy.I have a terrible sneaking suspicion that they want some cap space freed up to sign someone in FA. They're already talking about buying out Petersen, and possibly Atkinson as well, if they can't line up trades for them.
Then you buy him out.No one is trading for him without a pick attached, and the Flyers want that cap flexibility, so…

They just can't help themselves and pass on the huge marketing opportunity that will be having flyers celebrate his 1000th nhl game. After all Briere himself probably still blames therrien because didn't get to reach this epic milestone.
I love the shitting on people while getting the pick details wrong bit. High art.
For the record, I’m more than fine trading down as long as there isn’t a player available who shouldn’t be there (Buium, Parekh, etc). I just want picks back, not to save cap space for one year when they don’t need it. FWIW taking on almost 6MM of Atkinson should get San Jose more than 14 -> 12. He’s useless. But trades have to make sense for both sides, so unless the Flyers are trying to contend immediately, the concept is a non-starter. Of course they might be that incompetent!
I haven’t seen anything suggesting they’re going to buy out Petersen. They could, maybe should, but people seem to think they’re content leaving his number sit. Maybe he chips a toenail and they can LTIR him.

I think this is the best case scenario but due to the cap, someone is being moved and/or bought out. Could be Atkinson. Could be someone else.Cams got 1 year left...I dont see the harm in just riding him out. He can be the token "vet character guy" instead of them signing an equally as bad player to a 3 year deal in free agency to fill that bs role.
And hey...maybe he has a decent seasom and can be traded at the tdl.
He was/will be in the minors and the cap relief for that is only slightly over $1mWhy do we have a 'buried penalty' on Petersen?
Because he's not going to play, and he wants to play.Cams got 1 year left...I dont see the harm in just riding him out. He can be the token "vet character guy" instead of them signing an equally as bad player to a 3 year deal in free agency to fill that bs role.
