GDT: Theres a game Tonight

Honestly i thought the other goals were less difficult to stop than the 3rd one. None were necessarily weak but all savable i think

From the distance that the 3rd goal slap shot was taken there was literally no time to react and Binnington had to hope it hit him. It's not like he let it go 5 hole or something. He played it properly, he came out of the net to cut down angle as much as possible ans hoped for the best.

I just got back from the game, and I have to say I'm more disappointed than happy right now despite the 2 points. An 83.3% save percentage in a game like this is not great, and I get that Boeser is a great goal scorer, but Binnington has to get a piece of that final shot in regulation.

Ya man, have you ever taken a slap shot from an NHL player from that distance and had enough time to react and get a piece of it? The answer is no. I personally have taken that shot from that range and I can tell you from personal experience, you hope it hits you because there is no reacting to it at that distance.

Btw this is not to say I played in the NHL, this is saying I have played with NHL players in practice and req leagues.

This goes to show that unlike a goalie in the net or a shooter on the ice, television has all the best angles and views because that's how we can see all the action. Being the one in it or not having those angles accessible to you at that moment on the ice doesn't fathom for most watching a game... any game on television or online.

Well said. I guess some people are still using sv% alone to decide if a goalie had a good game or not.

Was the third shot stoppable? Sure I guess, but you can't expect goalies to stop every slap shot like that from so close. Boeser scored 40 goals for a reason. And while the first two goals might have looked soft at first glance on TV, the replays showed all the traffic in front that you can't really see from the standard TV angle. I'm not sure Binner saw either one until they were past him.

I know fans always like to have someone to blame, so lets figure out who blew the coverage on the third goal instead of blaming Binner for not stopping a nearly point blank slapper from an uncontested shooter. He made plenty of solid saves throughout the game that should cut him enough slack for letting up the 3 that he did.
