That should be motivation for Canada to become a better country.
This, we need to re-elect Jean Chretien

Montreal has drafted more US guys though. But guys from the States, especially if they've only played in the States and have options, rarely sign as UFAs with Montreal (and other Canadian teams). Many were quite surprised when Blake Coleman signed in Calgary (although Alberta is similar to his home state of Texas, so not as drastic of a difference lol).I think this is true for the Alberta teams, Winnipeg, Ottawa etc but not really nearly as true for Vancouver, Montreal and Toronto. Alberta and Winnipeg especially are at the biggest disadvantage here.
It seems like most cup winners are built through the draft anyways, except Vegas of course.
I didn’t say you need to speak it, but it’s raises issues when you don’t.
yes, they do...a ton of players have all of Canada on their NTCsBy some Canadian teams you mean Calgary, Edmonton, and Winnipeg right?
Vancouver, Toronto, and Montreal don't have this problem.
There’s a lot that exclude those three cities though as wellyes, they do...a ton of players have all of Canada on their NTCs
For an NHL player no, but when you factor in that a lot of these players have wives and kids? It becomes an issueFor the average person, it has both its advantages and disadvantages. For an NHl player, it creates none.
In terms of career opportunities, you're obviously better off knowing French as well and will be stuck in service jobs or things of the like (especially if you don't have anything more than a high school degree) but it's far from a death sentence.
OTOH, its language laws (which are somewhat understandable given its unique cultural status) have helped keep the city pretty affordable for its size (yes, it's still expensive, but it's like twice the size of Vancouver and way more affordable).
Why do you always have to bring Calgary down?
If you’re including Calgary you need to include Edmonton. Calgary is a far superior city

Kemp!lolIt's been like this forever. How is this news?
You can count the number of Americans that have played for Oilers in recent past on one hand.
Is Derek friggin Ryan the only one on current roster?
like who? There’s a lot that exclude those three cities though as well
Proof of this? The big markets are typically linked to most high end UFAsyes, they do...a ton of players have all of Canada on their NTCs
stop acting like we wouldn’t have a blast in Montreal if we wentFor an NHL player no, but when you factor in that a lot of these players have wives and kids? It becomes an issue
Are these NTC's readily available for us to see?yes, they do...a ton of players have all of Canada on their NTCs
Listen, I love Alberta, I’m not trying to bring any city down here. I’m just stating what the majority of people wantlike who?
Quebec's taxes are horrendous and probably turn off a ton of players from playing thereFor the average person, it has both its advantages and disadvantages. For an NHl player, it creates none.

My wife (and others like her in my social circle) has been living in Montreal for the last 10 years and has a great career (albeit we both work for American tech companies).

It’s kind of a moot point to discuss, you’re from Quebec and im not. I don’t think we will come to any common groundHow so?
Their kids will go to English schools.
so how do you know?Listen, I love Alberta, I’m not trying to bring any city down here. I’m just stating what the majority of people want
Oh I go roughly half a dozen times a year for work and love itstop acting like we wouldn’t have a blast in Montreal if we went
There’s been countless big UFA’s linked to those three cities over the past yearsso how do you know?
no, going off by what Seravalli is sayingAre these NTC's readily available for us to see?
