For some reason a lot of Americans or just foreigners in general think all of Canada is like Nunavut, but the major cities here are right up there with American ones. Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal are some of the nicest cities in all of North America. Just this shitty stereotype of what Canada is unfortunately.

The Raptors have to deal with this as well.

Lol, two of the bigger fish went to Canadian teams this deadline, and both teams got first rounders for them. I get it's been going on forever, but weird time for Soapbox Seravalli to act like he's breaking news here.
Look at the dynamics of both trades though, they are Canadian teams trading with other Canadian teams.

I think this is true for the Alberta teams, Winnipeg, Ottawa etc but not really nearly as true for Vancouver, Montreal and Toronto. Alberta and Winnipeg especially are at the biggest disadvantage here.
I remember Marc Methot mentioning that most players in nhl with no trade clauses often put 5 Canadian nhl teams on the list. The exception is mostly Vancouver because at least it’s Vancouver

I think it's always an issue for Canadian teams. Plus most have been pretty poorly managed for long stretches in recent history.
If you are a soon to be UFA, does it really matter? This isn't July 1 where you pick your team for the next several seasons. It's a few months at most. If you have term, then yes, it will be an issue as it always appears to be.

Different view on politics, different levels of taxation, although decent climate in some of the Canadian major markets it still can’t beat what the US can offer, housing markets here in the larger markets

I don't think Toronto, Vancouver or Montreal have ever struggled with acquiring and keeping foreign players though.

At a quick glance, each of these teams have been able to keep and acquire excellent foreign players. Both Euro and American.

As we approach the trade deadline, 4 out of the 4 teams involved in the big trades so far have been Canadian

To be fair, these players all travel to all these cities, American and Canadian, all work with each other who have all played everywhere and talk about experiences.

I get what your saying and other than making jokes, I understand I have next to no input on the QOL outside of where I live. But these guys all have more geographical/cultural experience place to place than any of us.

Do any of the other major sports leagues have any forms of trade protection in their collective bargaining deals?
They aren’t as common.

in NFL it’s grnerally thr QB

in baseball it’s a veteran

below has a decent summary

I think the bigger issue is the GM’s willingness to give guys NMC’s and NTC’s which plays into this matter. Maybe something needs to be looked at in the next CBA negotiations about it. I’m sure that’ll be difficult as hell to figure out as I’m sure the players won’t want to give up their rights for them. But I always liked the MLB’s 10/5 rights. Maybe just reduce those numbers or alter them slightly :dunno:
