I would struggle to call Reilly good, let alone great.

I think hes incredibly overrated. His 5v5 production is about on par with McDonagh and he plays for a powerhouse offense with a competent coach. He can't defend a lick. One of the most overrated players on this site.

If not McDonagh, they need someone. That defense isn't close to good enough.

He can be great without being elite. I think he's a top-end #3 who is an offensive guy. Nothing wrong with that.

Guys, the McD era is over.

Stop talking about not having to move him, or resigning him, or turning back time.

This isn't breaking up with your girlfriend and still seeing each other on the weekends to release some tension. It's over.

With that said, it might not be today, but McD is not staying here. The Rangers are NOT letting him ride out his contract and his value is NOT going to increase with less term. Don't kid yourself because it makes you feel better for a few minutes.

Cheese and Rice!
Who is this in response to? Seems like people just don't want to give him away for obvious low-ball offers

Time will tell. I’m not convinced. It’d be very easy and worthwhile to retain him.

And this is why I want a deal done today. Even if a team like Edmonton gets involved at the draft, I don’t believe there would be anything of of substance other than their #1 pick. It may be quiet right now, but, I believe it’s the calm before the storm.

It's late enough in proceedings to think that a McDonagh trade is unlikely. I'm glad that Gorts isn't caving on his asking price. He wants good value for everyone on the roster and is waiting for a team to willingly overpay.

To the people who seriously view retaining him as an option.

To the people who still think holding onto him past the draft is going to get a bigger return.

To the people who still think he's bringing in Marner/Nylander PLUS a package.

I appreciate your sentiment. I really do. I love McD.

But the Rangers are being very clear that is not a direction they are exploring. Is it possible? Sure, most anything is possible.

Is it likely? No. It's an extreme, extreme long-shot.

Does anyone else think we move one of Hayes/Miller/Skjei/Spooner/Vesey? They are all going to get pretty big raises, which will put us near the high end of the cap with no room to sign anyone next year. We are kind of cap strapped now with Brendan Smith, Beleskey in the minors and Girardi buyout.

Probably not... because of his contract.

In addition, we need some veterans to ice a roster even during a rebuilding era, lest we become the Edmonton Oilers.

I meant we could retain and ask for a conditional 7th, just give him a good home so we can lose logjam on the young 'uns.

As to vet presence, we can always address that later if truly necessary.
Get an acceptable guy hanging on but no long term or big cap hit.

Really depends on what the offers are. Unless teams put quality pieces on the table for those guys, perhaps Vesey being the exception, then they're probably not going to get dealt.

I am placing my money on Florida getting McD.......they have a wealth of talent and are in desperate NEED of McD. Their team is coming together and I think Talking wants to make a major splash here. If he gets involved against other suitors like TB, Toronto or whomever.....that'll be a very good thing.
Like I said.....my money is on Florida, they need him for NOW and in the future with cap space galore.

What if cheese and rice is our lord and savior
