I never ever expected that Point would be shipped out, that would be self-defeating for Tampa.
Hope the prospects are really as good a bet as these reports state.
Lightning defence is obscenely good now.

Guys, McD was not getting Sergachev or Marner. I don't know how else to say it. No one was expecting that except people on this board who kept wanting to put their fingers in their ears and hear none of it.

I'm sorry if that's harsh, but it's reality.

I mean, it's reality because this trade happened. I have a very hard time believing if we told everyone in the league at the draft that they could have McD and Miller, we could have gotten someone's top prospect.

The fact that we walked away without a single impact player or top prospect is horrendous imo.

This was a bad, bad trade.

We made a move just to "shake things up," and ended getting pennies on the dollar for two of our most valuable players.

All that BS the FO was leaking to Brooks about getting "125 cents on the dollar" for our players was just that, BS. Even more damning is if they think they got good value.

I mean, how can you trade your captain and best skater, along with a Top-6 C/W, and not get a single good, young roster player? Or even a blue-chip prospect. TBL managed to keep Point, Sergachev, and Foote. What a joke.

Howden is a legit top six forward prospect who is also about more than offense. Incredibly high hockey IQ, has shined at the WJC, tournaments and in the AHL last year as a teenager. He's a legit prospect.

Hajek is a very good, two-way defenseman who also has continued to progress in the WHL. Good size, a nasty streak and room to grow, good mobility. Potential ceiling of a top pairing guy.

You also got one first and possibly a second.

No not sleep on Howden and Hajek.

I think it's becoming more and more clear that something happened behind the scenes where mcd needed to be moved.

My uninformed guess is that someone (dolan or whoever) not only decided it was time to tear this thing down, but also pointed to mcd leadership and or the pulse of the team and targeted the captain as a piece that needed to go in order to change the culture here. Once that decision was made and mcd got hurt they (conveniently) held him out of the lineup even when he was healthy to make sure he was not injured before the deadline and told him in private why he was not dressing. After they did that they were at the point of no return and needed to trade him by this tdl...

@Brooklyn Rangers Fan that is exactly how I see it and exactly how I feel. This deal would have been okay for McD. Basically exactly what I expected. I’m confused by the addition of Miller/Namestnikov. I’d have thought we could do better shipping Miller + 2nd somewhere at the draft for sure. Also not confident Namestnikov will be nearly as effective when not riding shotgun to Stammer and Kuch.

I’m going to drink tonight for sure. We should start an OT TDL fall out drink and gripe thread for later.

Feels like JT Miller was a throw in. Not impressed. The conditional 1st in 19' is a joke, too. Going to need some time to cool off and learn more about our return but I'm not encouraged at first blush.

It's amusing that people keep complaining that the 2nd is "conditional;" if the condition is met IT IS A FIRST. It's AT LEAST a 2nd.

I think both Howden and Hajek are impact prospects.

I hope you're right, but I don't see a whole hell of a lot to suggest that based on their production and general reports of where they get ranked relative to other prospects.

I feel like something happened with Mac/Dolan or situations that forced this through. Feels forced to me and TB capitalized.

I think the return is decent for Mac, if that second turns into a first. Decent. But including Miller was a head scratcher. I think the Rangers had some beef with him. Some things were rubbing me the wrong way about him, maybe locker room stuff...

Namestikov is RFA and young talent which is good. Plays wing on their top line? Center wouldve been nice. The Rangers have gone from a mostly NA to a lot more Russian with some of these deals and the prospects coming up. If Kovy is brought in its going to be very Russian.

Guys, the second is conditional in the sense that it becomes a first if the Bolts win the cup.

Re: Howden, the kid is on pace for something like 44 goals and 115 points over a full WHL season.

He scored at a 100 point pace last season.

He's scored at the WJC.

He's scored in the AHL as a teenager.

He has progressed significantly in every season and in every area since being drafted.

This a legit prospect that we've talked about on here for weeks.

With a chip like McDonagh you have to go for quality. They got quantity. I'm disappointed but maybe we strike gold.
