Doug was a dynamite player and had a pretty successful tenure as the General Manager of the San Jose Sharks, but his teams' legacy is great regular seasons paired with post-season disappointment which makes him seem like a very unlikely answer to the problems the Maple Leafs are facing.
And he basically stuck it out with Marleau/Thornton/Pavelski almost 'til the bitter end.

I’m fine with taking our time, get it right. Shanny and Pridham aren’t golfing, things are progressing no doubt.
I don't think it's necessarily Shanahan taking his time more so that the available GMS know what kind of a cluster f*** situation this team is in right now and they're not ready to jump in and risk taking blame if or when things go south.

After seeing this I really couldn't give two shits to the GM is. I want Laviolette as the coach. I've never seen this video before

It's interesting to note that of the five teams he has coached (Islanders, Hurricanes, Flyers, Predators and Capitals, he has a winning record with each team he coached.

In fact, before this past season, when he had a losing record (35-37-10) the only other year that Laviolette had a losing record in his entire career was 2013-14, but he only coached three games that season (0-3.)

He's also guided three different teams to the Stanley Cup Final. Only four coaches have ever done that.

Nah, this is an enviable gig and we’re not exactly a terrible team. I bet he’s had plenty of calls.

Does a prospective GM say, “there’s going to be a step back for me to put my plan in place”? Or do they just say what they think Shanahan wants to hear in order to get the job.

Doug Wilson is decent candidate, made the sharks a good team, drafted well and ofc has made some bad moves, but when you been a GM for nearly 20 years, you are bound to have some bad moves.

Someone name that hasn't appeared lately in GM searches is Dean Lombardi, former GM of the Kings, has a history of winning and drafting well and made some bigger deals in his time.

If it's still Pridham running Dubas' systems behind the scenes, I rather look for someone that can bully trades/contracts and be a better face

So basically if Dubas didn't get greedy, they would be fully running it back???

My god. What a f***ing mess Shanahan and to a certain degree Dubas has made of this team.

He’s the only one on record suggesting a shake up is possible, this place is gonna be fun if it comes out that the “everything is on the table” comment is what got him fired and all the salary stuff is just a distraction.

Yeah its been tough to listen to. Everything is pro Dubas for them, none of them are trying to give the perspective from the side of Shanny (its like they cant even comprehend it). Like they dont even acknowledge the fact that Dubas basically requested to take Shanny's job. They just keep goin on about how could all this change over a press conference?!?!?!!?

Like theres way more to it than just the press conference but you're just ignoring all the context for some reason.

Shanny and Dubas mutually agree to bring him back. Dubas does a press conference that Shanny said not to do until things get ironed out. He blindsides Shanny and probably the entire Leafs org with a lot of the stuff he said in there (how can you tell Shanny you wanna come back and then publicly say youre not sure?). And based on Kyle's actions, Shanny saw what he needed to see to decide to can him.

Pretty sure Steve has been in full support of firing Dubas. I listen often and he’s been on the fire Dubas train for a while and said it’s the right decision.

Thought it was McCrimmon?

McPhee is the president now and McCrimmon is GM. But McPhee started as the GM and got promoted.

Thought it was McCrimmon?

Also fun fact Shanahan tried to hire McCrimmon as an AGM and he declined and opted for Vegas instead. One can only imagine.
