Am I going insane or did people just come up with Mean Girls Day this year? Apparently October 3rd is a reference to the movie (I’ve never seen it), but this is the first time I’ve ever seen it referred to as its own day.

Probably a marketing idea because they have a show on Broadway

When I was in 8th grade I had a t-shirt that said "F you if can't take a joke" and my mother threw it out.

For years any time my mom scolded me for comments I made I would say "Hey Mom, remember that shirt you threw out".

nah mean girls day has been around for years. as a millenial, trust me

disclaimer: this post is not political.

i have a sticker on the rear of my car that expresses my views, because i can do that.

a grown ass man ahead of me in traffic line threw a total ****ing temper tantrum over it, pointing at his rearview, making a rectangle gesture with his hands [both off the wheel] and flipping me the bird. contextually, it was obvious. mind you, literally nothing happened on the road between us. absolutely nothing. this was over my sticker, even though i didn't care about his sticker which offered a counter-opinion. mind you, this has been on my car for about a year and a half now, and nothing has happened. it was hilarious as first, but i slowly got pissed off when he kept carrying on about it for like two miles.

people are ****ing unhinged. really reassuring.

edit: (no, i won't remove said sticker until i deem it appropriate within the context of current events. that's giving 'em what they want. if the car gets vandalized, meh, the deductible is *a lot* lower.)
shoulda pointed at him and laughed the whole way

am i the only millennial who *hasn't* seen mean girls?

it just doesn't appeal to me, like my friends when they talk about every single new video game or pop culture ish. like, "guys i watch sports for entertainment."
I despise "pop-cultue". Even when pop culture was good (the 1980's ;)) I couldn't stand it. I knew people who actually would go home from parties to watch Miami Vice...idiots.

well it's also extremely ironic to me about how my closest friends who talk non-stop about video games, comic book culture, and will show off their new mechanical keyboards and funko pops in the group chat, and then look at me like i have three heads when i talk about the yankees. it's like "ok, we're all nerds, just over different shit."

although one of said friends does take me up on nearly every single invite to a devils or yankees game, in fairness. he's stoked on claiming my second ticket to devils/sharks in two weeks, but it's like, "wait, you actually watch all the games on TV?" to which I just respond "..................."

i prob only saw it because of my older sisters. but it's pretty hilarious, in a very dumb way. don't forget, it's from the early '00s, so its humor wasn't ruined by PC culture for PCs sake at that point.

no way that movie would fly nowadays

i don't understand this idea that comedy is ruined by PC culture.

then again, i go to comedy clubs in the city.
it's not ruined, but it's muted.

also, standup comedy is the last bastion for un-PC things - see dave chappelle. I listened to a podcast that basically said that people laugh uncomfortable things as a release of tension, and it helps when everyone else is laughing too. but the thing is, i feel like laughing at those uncomfortable things that tread near actual racism/sexism is a prime example of society's hypocrisy nowadays, and that, personally, bothers the hell out of me

like, i can't really even say that statement in public, since i'd probably get labelled as a racist/sexist outright for doing so

So that insidious Dragonfly thing we were talking about that Google's creating for China?

The VP just asked GOOG to consider the ramifications to the Chinese people and stop.

I have never seen Mean Girls and I don’t really want to. My girlfriend loves it, though.

My problem with today’s comedy isn’t PC-related, it’s that it feels more about having a message or speaking truth to power than about actually being funny. I agree with the politics of John Oliver for the most part, but watching his show feels like going to church, and it’s the same with a lot of late night TV. Comedy has always gone in phases, but I’m still waiting for audiences to get tired of this crap and it feels like that’s not gonna happen any time soon.

between john oliver's world view, being a fan of liverpool football club, and general dorkiness he's pretty much me if i was born in britain and got famous via comedy.

What disappoints me about John Oliver is that he’s capable of being quite funny, but his “jokes” on LWT are usually just references.

Stephen Colbert is just depressing to me. The Report was a work of art. Now he’s just riding on the news. That’s gotten boring now that nearly everyone on late night is doing it. Even the podcast Chapo Trap House, which is legitimately funny and insightful, falls into that trap a lot.

I totally disagree.

SEE: Jerry Sienfeld's recent explanation that he doesnt even do college shows anymore because 18-22 year olds today are a bunch of whiny, over-protected, coddled, babies who cant take a joke.
