I don't understand the 'we havent played well against Boston' crowd. One OtL and one game we should have won in Columbus but Bob had a rough day.
Because there's a sense that Boston plays the same game we do, only better, and that can be used to justify all sorts of interesting jumps to conclusions.

See post in vother thread re our record vs good teams 1-11-2 if I recall correctly. Add in playoff intensity and Bruins' experience-that's enough for me to want to avoid them.

The Bruins have the highest goal differential in the east and the lowest goals against in the east. They also have tremendous depth and about as much playoff experience as a team can have. I'd rather not have to play them if we can avoid it.

Fair enough points, but me, I'd rather play Boston than Pittsburgh if I had to choose. Especially given our play vs Boston.

Looking at this, 92 points is extremely doable (and a good chance we could get in), but aim higher!

Let's take a look at our remaining schedule. Based on how we've played against these teams all year, this is how I see things playing out:
SJS - toss up
@Min - toss up
Car - W
@MTL - L
NYR - W
@NYI - W
Det - W
Pit - L
@Car - W
Col - W
@Phi - W
Chi - L
NYI - W
PHX - W
@Tampa - toss up
@FLA - W
@DAL - W

Without these games going to OT, and salvaging some points fro the toss ups, that puts at ~95 points. Just win against the teams we should win against (we have a somewhat favorable schedule IMO), and we'll be fine.

The Rangers appear to have the best schedule out there. They play several games against the likes of Buffalo, Florida, Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver.... I think they end up with the 2nd spot. We need to beat out Philly for the 3rd spot in my opinion and Philly has what looks to be a fairly tough schedule to finish out. Back to back this weekend with Pittsburgh but the Pens just lost Neal.

Going to be a rollercoaster but that's what this is all about and makes it fun. Let's go Jackets!

Division position aside, we finally have a bit of a lead as far as just getting in. 2 points up on Washington with 2 games in hand and 3 points up on Detroit. New Jersey is 5 back and we have a game in hand there too.

Detroit has Toronto and Pittsburgh this week. Washington is at Anaheim and Los Angeles. New Jersey has Montreal and Minnesota. If we can have a good week here, there's the possibility we could start to separate.

Thanks for nothing this weekend, Pittsburgh.

I like where we are in regards to the Rangers. Same amount of points with two fewer games played and we play them this week. If everything goes right we could have a grip on the top 3 by this Saturday maybe even top 2 if Philly loses to Chicago and St. Louis this week.

I really like where we are in regards to the wildcard spot. We've got a little more wiggle room with Detroit losing yesterday. It looks like the Red Wings long reign of terror might finally be coming to an end.

Yep. Huge week ahead of us.

Assuming Bobrovsky has to sit one of the back to backs. Will he play in Montreal? Or at home vs the Rangers?

Speaking of which why in the hell do the Rangers only have 1 back to back remaining on the year when we have like 5 lol. They are always the scheduling beneficiary.

How many games did the Rangers have on the road to open the season before they got to play their first game on home ice?

Edit: Answering my own question - nine consecutive road games, from Oct 3-26. First home date: Oct 28.

Well..they'd probably trade us for our two games in hand if it meant two more back-to-backs for them. :) It is going to be brutal finish though. May have some ugly hockey.

Bob definitely starts Rangers game in my mind.

Early or late, that's not "always." I'm with Jarmo, why ***** about the weather/schedule, nothing to be done about it but win when they take the ice.

Okay....I'll save my whining about the Penguins pathetic performances against Philly and frankly everyone in our division by us/Washington. Fair???

I'm not concerned with that 8 games in 12 days finish. Seriously. That 8 game winning streak in January took place over 13 days. When this team gets in a groove, it looks like a potential cup winner. And I think playing frequently helps the team go into ass kicking mode.

Maybe I'll regret saying this but the team only needs 17 points in 15 games to comfortably make the playoffs. Not exactly a guaranteed spot but if the team finishes slightly above average, we're probably in.

I think the team is in the right place mentally. Prout made a comment in his post game interview drawing a parallel between this point last season and now. They know what they did down the stretch last year. They also know what the end result was. I think they'll play like their hair is on fire from here on out.

I agree in the short run. Bob even plays better that way too, I think. But in the long run (playoffs) teams get worn down and beat up sooner if they come in less rested.

Yes, this is what concerns me as well. Yes, the initial goal is to make the playoffs, but if we ride Bob and some of the key players pretty hard over that 12 game stretch, we may be putting ourselves at a disadvantage heading into the grind of the playoffs.

That's definitely a concern. But if the (potential) option is falling short of the playoffs...

It's not too much of a disadvantage. I looked at the schedules of potential opponents in April:

Blue Jackets-8 Games in 12 Days
Flyers-8 Games in 13 Days
Rangers-6 Games in 12 Days
Capitals-7 Games in 13 Days
Devils-7 Games in 13 Days
Bruins-7 Games in 12 Days
Penguins-7 Games in 13 Days

So with the exception of the Rangers, everybody has a fairly packed schedule in April. Yes, ours is the worst but not by a huge margin or anything.
