Will 91 points be enough? I think 93 is the # they should be shooting for.

You're probably right. I'm infatuated with the countdown. What I should really be doing is counting down points, not wins. 22 points in the last 18 is a virtual lock. 20 would just be a 70ish percent chance.

Enough countdown posts by me...just win, baby.

I don't that even that will be enough. 96 would be safe, but even 94 is looking a bit iffy.

This is based on the idea that the number of OT/SO games will increase, rather than stagnating.

We're 11-6-1 in our last 18 games. We went 11-6-1 in the 18 games before the last 18 as well.

Do it one more time and we're in.

If other teams continue to accumulate points at their cuurent pace they will finish like this

Rangers 92.25
Detroit 92.41
Philly 93.5

So to be "safe" we would need 94 (although 93 gets us 3rd in the above scenario).

At our current pace the Jackets finish with 90.96.

We need to be a bit better down the stretch and hope two of the above four teams (and Washington and NJ) don't go on a major winning/point streak.

Gonna be a wild ride. Hang on.

I think that's doable and would be enough, especially considering the difficulty of the schedules of the major competitors.

The Detroit game is probably the most important one. I think we'll be earning points at the same pace as them, and it will be absolutely (c-word) to steal them from the Wings.

Just win! I want top 3, not just in! I don't want a half full arena of Pens fans!

I wonder if a playoff matchup would produce the same majority of Penguin fans at NWA. I think the numbers would be smaller (a la Detroit during the last playoff series).

If we just miss the playoffs our inability to game get those lame 1 pt OT losses will be to blame. Pissed away too many games in regulation early on.

I was just looking over the other Metro teams schedules and Philly has a pretty brutal schedule the next 11 games. That definitely should help us assuming we can keep winning.

while DET is not playing well today, and I am pretty sure we can beat them, I worry that they come into Columbus tonight and have a full day and a half of rest and we will be traveling home late Monday night...fatigue could play a factor in that game...

I just wanted to wish you guys super good luck :) I've been cheering you guys on [minus 3 games of course ;) ] but I want you guys in the playoffs, and I think you'll be able to do some damage. :) Good Luck!

Sounds like a good game to have another 3 goal first period like we did vs DAL.

Someone mentioned this the other day, but it seems to me this whole stretch drive thing would be a heck of a lot better if all the games were intra-division or at least intra- conference coming down the stretch. I'm not a schedule maker but it seems like it would be doable or at least could be made better than what now exists.

On the other hand the schedule definitely favors us, the Rangers, Devils and Detroit down stretch. Washington & Philly have a brutal road ahead of them.

Here's the head to head record against the other teams in the conference for tiebreaker purposes

PIT 0-4-0 1gm remaining
BOS 0-2-1
TOR 3-0-0
MTL 0-1-1 1gm remaining
TBL 2-0-0 1gm remaining
NYR 2-1-0 1gm remaining
PHI 2-1-0 1gm remaining
DET 0-1-0 2gm remaining
WSH 2-1-1
NJD 3-1-0
OTT 1-2-0
CAR 2-1-0 2gm remaining
NYI 2-0-0 2gm remaining
FLA 2-0-0 1gm remaining
BUF 2-1-0

23-10-2 against teams in the East that don't wear black and gold so obviously rising to 2nd or 3rd in the division would be ideal

Led the Jackets in goals last season.... not bad...

As for the playoffs, we are third in the metro as of tonight...

^Definitely.

Wildcard means they're playing Pittsburgh or Boston in the first round. Two teams with loads of playoff experience and we haven't played that well against them. If we finished second or third we're likely playing New York or Philly and I think either of those is a winnable series for us.

It would be awesome to finish 2nd and get that first game at home. Nationwide would be on fire.

I don't understand the 'we havent played well against Boston' crowd. One OtL and one game we should have won in Columbus but Bob had a rough day.
