If Philly loses in regulation they stay at 87 pts. So momentarily Detroit with 88 is ahead of them. If Detroit wins tonight that gives them 90. Please explain how that doesn't put Detroit ahead of Philly?
Do you know how the playoff format works?
The top 3 teams in each division make the playoffs. The next two best records regardless of division get the wild card spots. Detroit is not in the Metro division and cannot "pass" Philly for one of the top 3 spots. Detroit can have 90 pts to Philly's 87 and still not pass them in the wild card standings.
If you're talking overall conference standings, then semantics wise, you are correct (hey 90 pts is more than 87!), but that's not what the NHL uses to determine playoff spots.
