I'm pretty sure we just went from "probably in the playoffs" to "no seriously even the jackets can't screw it up at this point, we're in"

You probably thought we had at least a point with 3.6 seconds to go, right? Only when it is mathematically certain we are in, will I believe. And even then it will be with a tinge of doubt.

IMO, this scheduling is really dumb. Why would Detroit finish with St. Louis? Why do we play teams like Phoenix, Chicago, and Colorado in the last two weeks? The last two weeks, games should be against teams in your conference, and the last week should be division opponents only.

Agreed. They need to get this figured out next year.

I refuse to get too cocky yet with a 4 in 5 nights, including the last 3 on the road.

We win tomorrow and I feel better.

What I find interesting is that, potentially, 4 teams in the East could be eliminated tomorrow. I actually hope that Washington and Detroit loses and we win, leaving Washington in for another day but can't catch us.

I agree. Even if they win tomorrow, I won't get to comfortable. I feel like I'm such a curse that until they're officially in, I won't celebrate.

I'm a Cleveland sports fan so I can't feel even the slightest bit comfortable until it's official. I'm trying not to even think we got it in the bad. It tends to go bad then I think like that.

I love this sentence. It shows how ingrained our belief that we will fail is as Ohio [and especially Cleveland] sports fans.

What a pleasant surprise! Thank you Calgary!!

It's fitting that the next 2 games are against teams fighting for their playoff lives. The Jackets will be more than properly battle-tested when they start their first round series.

So. Much. Butthurt. from the NJ fans toward the CBJ for some reason about the game last night. Rather than being pissed at their own team's inability to beat bottom-feeders, they take out their frustration on us? Does not compute.

Again, I can see the Devils becoming a decent rivalry for us simply because their fanbase is full of obnoxious loudmouths.

Funny thing about all those "well wishes" on our possible 1st round matchup, is that we are three times more likely to move up to 7 as the Devils are to catch us at 8. We are twice as likely to jump Philly and put the Wild Card in our rearview mirror, as the Devils are to catch us at 8.

We need to get used to it, we are not going to be a feared team until the boys accomplish something beyond backing into the playoffs. A first round upset, that will get some attention.

does it really matter?
You've, uh, never followed Ohio sports before, have you?;)

Don't forget the Tribe - Baseball Strike took out their one year that had a chance to win it all..

Also Tony Fernandez ball goes between his legs at second base top of the 11th game 7 against the Marlins allowing for the winning run a short time later. Tribe can't overcome this and lose it all. That same season .. all of the good marlins players get dumped to other teams.. and not through Blockbuster deals either

What's interesting is that I couldn't really find much in the way of attacks from the NJ fanbase. They seemed far more upset with Calgary (very understandable) and their inability to score goals (also very understandable).

Where I saw some stuff is in their version of this thread. Having said that they made the same point I did. We look like an easy first round match up for someone. They also don't think we are "better" than they are. I don't think there is anything that egregious with that statement. I take some exception with their belief that we are this years Islanders. There are a lot of differences with those two franchises. Having said that, I also share the concern that we're in for a very tough fight next year to get into the playoffs. I think the Metro is the second toughest division in hockey. At least in that we really don't have a bottom feeder.

As far as comparing the two teams; they are some major differences. While they have some of the better special teams in the league; we are a much better team 5 on 5. We are top 10. If you look the teams in playoff positions; they are all the best 5 on 5 teams. There isn't a single non-playoff team in the top 14. Number 15 is Phoenix.

Our 5 on 5 play is why we have a positive goal differential and they don't. Their team is doing their best to stay even 5 on 5 and win the special teams battle. We're looking to win 5 on 5 and hopefully get the PP to chip in.

They are also missing they we have 4th line players getting around 10 goals for the season. Our depth in scoring is what lead to our push and what is failing for us now.

Some of our best players are also very young. Johansen, Murray, Jenner. We also run with Calvert and Atkinson. Jenner has 14 goals as a rookie. Pretty impressive. We are also pretty deep with depth in the farm system. A few guys that could actually help us top six. We've also got some decent young d-men outside of Murray.

We also suffered from a lot of man-games lost. Horton hasn't been right all season and when he was producing at all we went on a run.

There is some work to do with this team; but I think we're well setup. This is a good mix to this team and it's going to be hard to decide who to part ways with.

I'm not sure they can claim their are better; now or in the long term. Is Jagr even playing next year? Having said that, they play a great defensive game and they have good goal tending. A lot of their negative goal differential is made up by the SO losses. They'll contend. I don't see them going 0-11 again next season in the SO.

It's a pretty good debate if they want to have it.

One additional note on differences with team(s).

Our upcoming RFA schedules in include; Johansen, Murray, Jenner, Atkinson, Calvert, Erixon, Savard, and Prout. That doesn't even include Tropp and Frattin. They have Larsson, Merrill, Josefon, and Gelinas. They have some good players locked up on contracts; but they don't have much from their system contributing to their teams. Even if they have some good players in their farm system our younger players are further ahead in development.

They kind of know what they are going to get year-by-year from their players; we have guys that haven't peaked and are still contributing.

Remember when the Cavs were going to destroy the Magic in the Eastern Conference Finals?

Remember that time we didn't mention other teams completely unrelated failings when talking about the Blue Jackets? Neither do I.

Who the **** cares about what the Browns/Bengals/Indians/Reds/Cavs did 20 years ago. Quite frankly, Cincy/Cleveland sports fans are some of the whiniest *******s in sports. Let's leave the tradition of non-stop *****ing in those cities.

However, there is some opportunity here. If CBJ can somehow emerge as a regular post season team and build some post season success when those other teams haven't been able to for 20+ years, maybe they can get a band wagon full of Ohio fans desperate for something positive other than just OSU.

Is there a scenario where the CBJ can clinch tonight? Because looking around at what has been tweeted and posted here, we need to win 2 games, but looking at sportsclubstats.com, if all goes well for them and TOR, WSH, and DET all lose in regulation, our chances increase to over 100%....
