See flashes but not same since Monahan
Monahan was traded during the All-Stars break. Slaf had his best sequences in the 6 games following the All-Stars break.

It's only been the last 4 games where Slaf isn't the same, and only the last two since he really looks like lost boy again. That started after he had a treatment day for "load management" reasons along Suzuki and Caufield. That was the practice after he had 7 shots and played ~24 minutes...

He didn’t play a bad game last game. Not getting a point doesn’t mean you played bad.
I think it’s fatigue. 3 minor penalties one game and 2 in another. Then he got benched for a shift last night after the 2nd penalty and came out like a bat out of hell on his next shift to try and make up for it.

Remember he only played 39 games as a rookie. And that was playing around 12 minutes a game. He’s at 59 games this season and he’s being thrown out there with 1st line TOI. Looks like it’s catching up to him (and Cole too honestly).

I'm not too worried about Slaf. Watching him closely you can see what he wants to accomplish out there and he sees the right plays more often than not.
They aren't coming off for whatever reason and it does frustrate him after having had that great run. If he wasn't seeing the ice I'd be worried.
It will just take another goal or great assist to get him pointed in the right direction. Honestly not getting any PP's these last two games doesn't help.
Oftentimes a good PP will carry over into the 5v5 play and we've seen that more than once in recent games since the break.

Bad game last night. Happens , Cole in a slump too not doing much out there. Slaf needs to hold on to the puck more
Slaf hasn't been the same since the streak. But it's to be expected. He wasn't going to finish the season at a 100 point pace.

I think Caufield should probably be benched. He missed three practices and then played his worst game of the year. He's been a ghost for the past four games. It would be the worst if he has an injury and makes it worse playing in useless games down the stretch.

If he is hurt, I'd rather we just bench him and bring up Roy to play with Nick and Slaf.

I was excited with his good play and progress. I expect slumps but dwindling into complete irrelevance for 4 games can’t happen for a first liner. 1 shot/game is worse than an average NHL 4th liner. A first liner needs to take the bull by the horn and make things happen. It tells me his progression is frail.

He's a first liner because we don't have anyone else.

A bad four games on this team is no big deal. Esp when our other winger looks like he's hurt.

How can the other injured winger have a couple of 5 shot/games during the same stretch when his linemate is floating in oblivion barely getting a sniff on net. It’s unheard of.

Caufield is a shoot first guy and his linemates are more often than not looking to pass to him rather than them taking the shot, it isn't that hard to figure out.

I'm not saying Caufield's been terrible but he hasn't looked right. It's his health that I'm concerned with.

As for Slaf, he's going through the normal ups and downs of a young player. Nothing to worry about.

Another wicked shot from the scorer's area, he really does have to keep shooting more. 1 SOG per game the last four, 6 this game and surprise surprise, one goes in.

Maybe wait more than 4 games before starting to be "totally honestly" concerned about the kid again.

Bad passes happen all the time.. it didn't really put them in that bad of a position, Monty just played the shot poorly and it ended up costing them.

Good read by Florida, as well.
Yeah almost every star player in the league has had that exact same pass on the pp intercepted like that just this season , I've already seen McDavid Kucherov and Panarin and Marner do the exact same turnover on the pp this year just randomly tuning into miscellaneous hockey here and there. If anybody can afford some turnovers in a tank season its our 1st overall that's developing lol

It’s the less of our worries if 19 years old Slaf makes a bad pass ending up in the net lol

it happens to every player even veteran ones anyway. Knowing Slaf he isn’t happy though, he seems pretty demanding of himself but that’s why the kid is gonna be so good.

Just a lesson in on ice awareness for a youngster. You shouldn’t try that pass to begin with, but you definitely shouldn’t be taking risks like that when Reinhart and Barkov are on the ice.
