15% is unsustainable, theres no way around it. Its high. It doesnt mean a player cant hold that for 50 or 100 games, it means hes bound to regress. Its basic statistics. The very best shooters that arent volume shooters will generally run around with 14-15%. Slaf is a good shooter, hes not an elite one, his shooting % will probably normalize between 11 and 13.
14 to 15 percent is high but top snipers achieve it all the time. It’s not uncommon to see beyond that. No, it won’t be sustained over your career but you can have multiple seasons at that level. I’d expect Caufiled to be in that range in some seasons for sure.

Yes it is. The non ad hominem way to say that is "I disagree with your take, here's why:"

The ad hominem way is "lol you're a hockey IQ dumbass. I am moar smarter. No explanation"
Odd, that's often how you came off when you were smugly denouncing anyone who was positive about Slaf before his breaking out party. In fact, you're still coming off that way.

Yes. Slaf isnt a top sniper, even if hes a very good.shooter.

It was preseason I believe...how are you btw @Mrb1p :D
My pre-draft prediction of him being the best player in the draft looks very good, I guess. ;)

He does not t have the shot volume to be a top sniper. As you said, he’s a very good shooter. That’s why I don’t think it’s crazy to think he could have a higher percentage. But that doesn’t mean he’ll score 50 goals.

Caufield at 14 percent will get 40 plus goals because he gets 300 shots a year. Slaf Will likely get a little more than half that many shots.

There's no doubt it's been a total BLAST lately to see this all unfolding and him progressing as well as anyone I've ever seen as a Habs prospect

Honestly, I gotta pinch myself sometimes
Because this isn't a 'Well I hope he keeps it up' feeling, which I dont fault people for thinking either btw,
But this feels WAY more like a 'just the beginning, more on the way' type feeling imo

I'm not seeing 'fluke play' out there with him, I'm seeing 'ok I'm not nervous anymore, I can PLAY now' on top of all the coaching and everything he's learning

It's just so fun tbh, this is the tip of the iceberg, and good for us honestly, f*** everyone else let em whine and doubt

I think a lot of what happened with Slafkovsky and the fanbase was due to the mental illness inflicted unto the fans by the franchise. The level of PTSD from the recent history of high pick and promising prospect busts probably caused Habs fans as a collective to view the Slaf situation with the pessimism thats been beaten into us. So it actually makes perfect sense why we wouldn't believe a 1st OA pick for the Habs wouldn't turn out to be a star and instead merely a 60 pt player in his peak if we're lucky.

But maybe I'm just talking out of my a**, who knows

Canucks fan coming in peace.

My comparision pre draft for Slaf was a prime Todd Bertuzzi(minus the cheapshots). I'm super high on the kid and see a future superstar. He's growing into his body, and he's just going to get meaner and meaner. The way he can use his body to shield the puck is eerily reminiscent of a young Bertuzzi. Kid is going to be the next great power forward.

The most impressive stat for me the past 25 games has got to be he has thrown 42 hits in that span. He had 53 all year last season. When it's all said and done kid is going to be talked about like Bertuzzi/Iginla.

No doubt, Slaf, Suzuki and Caufield are all elite talent. They are a really good 1st line in NHL, Dach, Newhook are great players to build a true 2nd line... a another top 6 winger will help the forward group. Dach need to be healthy. That's the only concern to build a really good top 6 on Habs system. Newhook is really really good.

I I always backed up my opinion with something and didn't go after people for having the opposing opinion. Unless they went after me first, then all bets were off.

Whoa, that's like.. a description of all your posts the last couple months! *shock*

And did you just Google what ad hominem means a couple days ago or something because you're in love with saying it in every post all of a sudden lol

If you're done with the 'whole world's against me' shtick everybody can move on and enjoy this Slafkovsky stuff maybe?

No need to misrepresent me. I only go after people if they go after me first or troll the tank thread, my defacto home on this forum. And I'm the type of guy who defends my home with shotgun blasts to the face.

Maybe you got offended by my posts because you're one of the guys who act like I kick your puppy if I go after the org, or because I might have been specifically negative on a player, decision, or how someone was playing. Maybe that bothers you. Maybe you don't like negativity. But the most toxicity and insulting of other posters came from the positive side of the aisle, as it were.

Gotta like the Rehabs kind of compliment in there.....lol

All good, as long as you are true in saying you are glad to be wrong. Rehabs was busy trying to be right, all the while pretending to be a habs fan, and somehow glad HuGo was wrong, and we all told him it was going to take time......and it is taking time.
The developing of a young player at 18 entering the NHL is more than likely 3-4 seasons unless you are Crosby, McD level right off the get go.........

I'll do a backflip if I'm wrong. The way he looks now is massively promising.

When you were evaluating him.... Perhaps nothing clicked since then. Perhaps...just maybe...your evaluation was wrong.

Maybe. But the way he played was the way he played. I hope my evaluation was wrong. He still needs to be able to do this consistently over a long period of time. Galchenyuk was good for a while too.

Fair enough. Some of us have been cialis models for this kid since the start of the season. Some of us saw this coming and evaluated him accordingly. I admit....I had about a week or two in early November where I started to waiver a bit....but upon further inspection of his overall play....it was obvious the breakout was coming. It was just a matter of when.

Regardless of that....we all should be stiff as a board by now....except of course the ladies on this board.

Joe Thornton first two seasons:

55gp-3g-7pts
81gp-16g-41pts

Let's hope he call follow that path of Joe who used his big frame to create space to dish out sick passes.
It’s actually amazing what happens to mediocre players when you have a player who can make almost anyone look good.
