What are you talking about? So much hyperbole. No one thought Ottawa is a contender. They are a young team coming out of a rebuild pushing for a playoff spot. Despite how terrible this road trip has been they have been playing 600% plus hockey for the last 45 games. They are still in the mix. It was always a long shot with the poor start but they are in it... They were 12-3-3 before this trip. Didnt see any of you guys posting when that happened. Teams especially young ones are streaky, they were bound to have some bad games.

Chychrun is a HUGE piece to add to the Sens core. It was always a huge long shot for the Sens to make the playoffs.

Picking one or two posters opinion would be like saying your opinion represents the majority of people who post here from your fan base. Which would obviously be a very flawed and poor way to look at it.

They addressed a big organizational need and he fits into the age group of the team. Should they have been unhappy about that?.... They are in the mix for a playoff spot which for 90% of the fan base was the expectation and hope of the season. No one expected them to make it this year in such a stacked division and conference. Their best player is 21 years old top D man is 20. Every important player except Giroux is 26 and under. Its a team that is just starting to be competitive. Not remotely close to this teams peak. Every important game is good for this team because none of them have played any before. They're getting a good taste right now about playing on the road with expectations. It hasnt been pretty thats for sure.

I honestly thought it was an amazing trade, but I've watched their last 2 games, and I am just not very impressed.

Chychrun is obviously a bit of an athletic freak; great skating, great puck skills. However, he looks a bit lost to me, I am not sure his hockey IQ is high enough to be a true #1. He reminds me of a certain offensively gifted defenceman on my own team who can look really lost when the puck isn't on their stick.

I need to see him for more games, but I am not sure he was really the ideal piece for that group. Maybe it's just weak goaltending making everyone look a bit worse than they are?

He's a pretty good player that will likely be demanding a huge contract in two years before he hits Unrestricted Free Agency. Time will tell how good of a "core" piece he is when he's making a big money contract. I don't hate the move for them but I think there was a A LOT of hyperbole as to the level of impact he'd have.

They have a top 4 of Chabot/Sanderson/Chychrun/Zub and a top 6 of Norris (injured all year)/Stutzle/Tkachuk/Giroux/Batherson/DeBrincat.

What they need is a #1 goalie, a new coach to hold the players accountable, and better luck with injuries next year.

With that said this sens team could be 1-2 changes away (starting goalie and better coach imo) from going from missing the playoffs to a scary contedner over 1 year.

The GM can not afford to f*** up this offseason though.

Sens get back Norris next year and have their prospects at the position where they need to be integrated into the team or be dealt for another piece to push them forward.

They are a good team but they started poor which really hurt them in the playoff race. Don't see them missing again next year

I think you are underestimating just how much help Ottawa needed in their top 4. Chychrun is a huge impact, anyone who knows the team realizes it. Much lesser players would have still had a huge impact... it's more a statement on what our depth is than what the player is.

Good thing the sens have everyone except Sanderson locked in. They also get 2 + seasons to evaluate the player and other players in the organization before making a decision. Its kinda strange how in one sentence you talk about how he is going to ask for so much money but the other you question if he is a core piece. Wouldnt he have to play well to demand alot of money? Or are we just ignoring common sense.

Will start to get interesting next year with DeBrincat in his last year, then Pinto and Sanderson both coming up on their 2nd contracts the year after. Like many good young teams, the cap space will evaporate quickly. The Atlantic got lucky they dealt Gustavsson because it's a very strong core with some good young talent still on ELCs on the way.

This. They also play their best when they play physical and with emotion which is completely unsustainable. Its also really hard to play that way on the road with no help from the crowd. This coaching staff's strength is they have a good culture and they have the players playing for one another. But this staffs weakness is from an attention to detail and structure stand point. Which really does not bode well for road games. They need a change in that regard but the foundation DJ Smith and co have established is a good one from a culture stand point.

I think all in all everyone agrees the Senators are a team on the rise, but it's fair to poke fun at the OP for the premature celebrations.
