And they're done
I mean they still have 2-3 games in hand on NYI, FLA and WSH so far from done. But they do play much harder teams in the next couple weeks than Chicago and Vancouver.

If you wanna Waltz you have to beat the amateur underground break dancers first, and they aren't doing that. Looked like they can barely chacha last night.

If they lose to CGY and EDM, might as well start focusing on our Waltz for next season.

They seemingly play better against better competition so hopefully that reflects well in the next couple games. If they do end up missing by a couple points they'll be looking at those Chicago games and this Vancouver game as a big reason for it.

Also hate that this thread is a thing, just opens us up to criticism when there's so much room for the team to falter down the stretch, though it does seem like it's consistently only specific fanbases being petty after the sens lose.

It has been a successful season even if the Senators don‘t make the dance.

I’m just glad they’re there, fighting for a spot. That was the goal coming into the year, and that is where they’rw at.

I wouldn't say they were fighting for a spot. The majority of the season they had like 5 teams to pass to make the playoffs. Sure, they weren't mathematically eliminated but the Red Wings started selling players with the exact same record as Ottawa at the time - so they weren't actual playoff contenders by any means.

The OP started this thread during a hot streak by Ottawa temporarily inflating their points percentage, but now the reality of the Sens is waltzing away.

This is something the didn't factor in when they made the thread. Note how 6/10 teams with the most difficult schedules left are Atlantic teams and they all face Boston. The two teams not listed are Florida and Boston who obviously don't have to play Boston.

At the time the OP made this thread, Ottawa, Detroit and Buffalo were all within 4 points or less of the Islanders for the last wildcard spot with as many as 5 games in hand but they had something like the 1st, 2nd and 4th hardest schedules remaining in the league respectively. Ottawa has 16 games left and half of them are vs a Top 5 NHL team and one of them is vs the defending champs. It was gonna be a much harder road than the OP predicted.

Meanwhile the Islanders, Penguins and Panthers - the other teams in the Wild Card race are nowhere to be found on this list.

Not cool, OP.

These fans deserve everything.

Sens will be back with vengeance.

They‘re right there and still have a shot at it, however unlikely now.

It‘s been a successful season all things considered. I just hope new ownership comes before next season and there can be some changes with the coaching staff. It’s been long overdue.

Things are looking up for the Senators, it’s great to see, for once.

They're a solid up and coming team. If they don't make it this year, I'd bet a decent amount they'll make it next year if healthier.

The two veteran teams look to be pulling away a bit, which isn't surprising. I doubt either the 7 or 8 team is going to do squat in the playoffs anyways. It would be nice to get some new blood in there. Those young teams are on the heels of the veteran teams and have much higher potential, so with a bit more experience and roster shaping- a few of those green teams are going to overtake those veteran teams. It's the circle of life, man!

The Islanders have no more games against the Pens (i.e. guaranteed wins), so I think the Sens might still catch them. ;)
