The Jones family did have connections to the Avalanche, I think Popeye knew Sakic from his time with the Nuggets. So there was speculation that might lead to them drafting Seth, but I don't think anyone really thought they would pass on MacKinnon. I dont remember the Aves straight up saying who they were taking but its possible.

Kakko at wing automatically bumps up his Center to another tier.

Chytil is only 19 years old.

Move up and take Zegras or Newhook, we're good as gold.

Next year our top pick could be a Center like Lundell, Byfield, or Perfetti.

Sakic previously identified forwards MacKinnon, Jonathan Drouin and Aleksander Barkov as the team's top candidates. Asked if MacKinnon was the best bet of that trio, Sakic said, "I think if we had to do it today, right now, he would probably be the guy, yes." He quickly added, "But we still have some time."

Yeah they pretty much confirmed what everyone already knew, that they were going with the consensus #1 in MacKinnon.

Though when did reality ever get in the way of some fun speculation?

I do wonder at how the centers shake up next year. I would rather not have any of them developing as 4C. If I had my druthers, Zbad is #1 & Andersson is #3. Howden and Chytil alternate between LW & 2C , both on the second line.

I’m not convinced Andersson is a given for next year.

I think a ‘best case scenario’ situation for next season is Chytil or Andersson shows another level in the NHL. It’s not necessary as next year, to me is a weird dice roll on a lot of fronts. Things can go so many different ways and we have absolutely no idea what this team is going to look like in camp...

My train of thought right now is, since we’re potentially adding two future superstar wingers, I don’t feel like it’s out of the realm of possibility that either of these kids clicks with a Chytil or Andersson in the middle of them and we see a higher level of play come out of it from the sophomores ...

you add kakko and put him with zibanejad NEXT YEAR and those 2 will be dynamic. thats something to drool over. you add kreider to that line and thats legit. kakko can play next year.

I'm on board, with the exception being to have Buch on that line. If Kreider is here, he can carry his own line. Let him play with Chytil.

My opinion is that the only future top six center currently on the roster is Zibanejad. The other one is coming either in this year’s draft or next year’s.

i would agree.

i think the single biggest question- well one of 2 biggest questions for next season, is our huge hole at the 2C. its a problem not easily solved.

there isnt anyone to fill that spot. there are some maybes and some 3/4c guys who could "play up" but that just weakens the rest of the roster, not to mention the linemates.

Interesting. I can totally see that.

In which case, we really need to be dealing Rykov while he still has value...

Perhaps, but we’ve been down this road and you know my feelings on Chytil at center.

We're not in a crazy competitive spot at this point looking for a 2C. Let that sort itself out over the course of the season, unless we're making a trade to get someone who has 1C potential that is already a 2C and fits our age range of players.

All these guys are a year older and have NHL games under their belt. Start molding them to be the 2C, whether that is Andersson, Chytil or Howden. If not them, we're going to be looking for someone to play behind Zibanejad when he is potentially getting a big raise. It'll take another 2-3 years before that player is ready, especially if we are drafting them.

I don't think Andersson has enough trade value to make it worthwhile for the Rangers to trade him.

I know, I didn’t want to get into that again, or even my feelings. I just wanted to say that’s probably the plan on how that’s going to shake out going into the season
