He might have convinced you but not me and it's got nothing to do with blue-white glasses. And don't get me wrong, I'm sure Hughes will be an impact player and probably even an All-Star player in time, but I doubt he's going to be as good as Kakko in the end. The latter will never have to worry about not having enough strength to play in the big league, where there are many who wonder if the other will even make it there come next year. Yeah, Hughes broke some record in the kids' tournament in a super stacked team (the same tournament they both owned last year already) and had a good year without doing anything extra special and couldn't really get much anything going against few years older players in the WJC, which would worry me if I was a GM and holding the 1st OA. Sure they say he was injured back then but heck, if he can wear on the jersey and play the game then one must wonder how much of an obstacle that was in the begin with or if he even got slowed down because of that at all. Can't claim to have followed USHL but I doubt you have either. Just watched a lot of international hockey these past few years in order to be able to compare the two with good conscience.
Like said, Hughes is going to rack up easy points in the WHC in another stacked team and make the hockey world forget about Kakko for the coming days, but when the fall comes it's going to be all about Kakko again so just bare with it folks. The Finnish team is one of the worst I've ever seen and I probably wouldn't even bother watching the games if it wasn't for this young man.
