Kaapo apparently translates to Gabriel.

Just as long as Kakko doesn't translate to Fontaine, I think we're good.

Well just last year Kakko was playmaker and certainly wasn't considered as one of the better goal scorers. So maybe the tables turn yet again come another year?
He's not a pure sniper. It may seem so because he had to do much of the scoring by himself (cause the rest of the team was so s**t), but believe me, once he gets players closer to his level around him Kakko will be getting assists much more than he scores goals.
Am I the only person here that is going to be nervous right up until Gordie makes the selection? I mean, Kakko (if available) is a lock at #2. He should be and deep down, I know Hughes or Kakko will be a Ranger on June 21. That isn't stopping me from envisioning this scenario where Gordie goes to the podium says "The New York Rangers are proud to select from SKA St. Petersburg, Vasily Podkolzin".
Do you blame me?
If Kakko and Kravtsov play in the NHL next season, and Kreider and Skjei aren't moved in the offseason, there's a distinct possibility that on a given night, the Rangers could have 7 players they took in the first round on their roster
Kakko, Kravstov, Andersson, Chytil, Kreider, Skjei, and Staal.
Additionally, if K&K were added to the same roster that finished the season, there would be a total of 14 former first round picks on the squad --- including 5 players picked in the top 10.
Name translations have always fascinated me.
Steven in French is Etienne which never made sense to me. But Finnish names take the cake man.
Valtteri = Walter
Lauri = Lawrence
Antti = Andrew
Jukka = John
Taneli = Daniel
Seppo = Sebastian
Santeri = Alexander

Sorry Shadow. But I would draft Byram ahead of you. I know that may sting....
If you guys wanted more assurance

Most players would go to the left point or wheel it back around the boards.
Watch your boy sauce that **** all the way to the right point.
Nah, he wouldn't have mentioned the fact that the general hockey world considers there to be 2 franchise quality players. That was your sign and the rest was just lip service.That will give some people less![]()
I can totally see the vision now, no pun intended.You know that getting him completely validates the rebuild.

Completely different group of guys running the show and also a much different situation. I totally get why people have McIlrath PTSD, but it's such a different situation now. I think most people using their logic knows it's a lock for Kakko/Hughes.I agree, but some people will focus on the "I haven't spoken to our scouts yet, there may be another guy who is right there" quotes.
This pick is pretty much idiot proof.
Some people have PTSD from the McIlrath pick, but no one will be able to convince me that Messier didn't have a lot to do with that one.

But it was the 10th pick versus a top 2 when it's universally agreed upon who the top 2 is and Gorton's power and influence was insignificant compared to now. You might very well be right about Messier by the way, but I'm just saying that the situation is a lot different and that Gorton is a lot different than Sather.Clark and Gorton were both here when McIlrath was chosen, but I agree.
Again, I have a strong, strong suspicion that Messier had a lot to do with that pick (and that draft in general.)

My memory is failing me, was Messier part of the front office then? In what capacity? And why do you think it was his influence?
He was on the stage with the rest of the staff when McIlrath was picked.
Gordie Clark was questioned about why he didn't take Fowler and he responded with something akin to "We can't look Mark Messier in the eye and say we're going to draft a soft player"
Messier was also interviewed after that draft and said "It used to be the best player available, but some times the best player doesn't love the game."
That pick (and draft) had his prints all over it. Some people want him to become president of this team.
