Pierre Mcguire's incredulity would be EPIC!!
Let's not kid ourselves. He'd pull out the high school you attended, a series of teacher/coach comments about you, and your first pet's name.

Respect the view, but to me, nothing tops Jessiman. NOTHING.To make it worse, the analysts immediately said something like Montoya is an odd selection, here.
Sorry Shadow. But I would draft Byram ahead of you. I know that may sting....Right there with ya. Gordie could convince the damn team to select me with the 2nd OA pick lol!!

Would have drafted Pucket ahead of him. They might get confused and take Kent Hrbek.
Nooooooo. That pick was reviled. I am nowhere near Edge, but I remember pounding the table for Getzlaf as the comparison was a young Bobby Holik. That was the one draft where the board was not centered on who should be, but everyone knew who it shouldn't be.And still, on draft day, it was not a bad pick
Brother, as a Ranger fan who is 48 years old there is an utterly irrational side of me that wants to convince me that when we hear that Spencer Knight is the proud choice of the Rangers, I should not be surprised.Like I said. The rational side of me knows we are taking Kakko. But 25 years of being a Rangers fan does make me a bit gun shy.

This is not done with benefit of hindsight. Jessiman was widely thought to be a mistake (mildly putting it) of a pick.
I used to play Risk a lot when I was a kid. And when I controlled the middle east, I promised my friend that if he moved his armies to the North American border that i would not attack South America.........like all world powers I lied and bombed him for world domination. They are on record as saying they won't select a goalie in the first round.
Sorry, AK. Picking Jessiman was nothing like griping about who should have been picked with the Kreider pick. Like I said, for the very few times this board was universally aligned about who definitely should NOT have been the choice. He was a great prospect at the time, and his injury ruined his development. Jessiman wasn't really as off the board as people make it out to be. And sure, Getzlaf was a popular prospect in 2003 and it worked out well for him so he's mentioned regularly as "the one we missed" but I vividly remember people going crazy because we passed on Jordan Schroeder and Jacob Josefson in 2o09 and picked Chris Kreider instead. Yet, nobody ever brings that up again
It was the post-Richter, living off backups era, we were starved for our all star starter which the Rangers org., good or bad, always seemed to have. Goalies were not seen as such a crap shoot as of yet to draft either. Montoya, the all American boy, had just had spike in play during the WJC's, which the Rangers brass viewed through rose-colored confirmation-bias glasses as 'gets it done in big moments' type of thing instead of 'generally he's ok and just had a statistical anomaly for 2 weeks'.A lot of people complain about Jessiman and McIlrath, which is understandable, but the angriest I ever got at a Rangers 1st rounder was when I watched on TV and kept saying to myself, anyone but a goaltender and they selected Montoya. Their later selections turned out great, but after they selected Montoya, I yelled.

Forseberg was a playmaker mostly, Kakko is more of a goalscorer.

Looking back to 2004, trading up for Ladd might have been the only reasonable play that would have actually worked out. What a brutal draft.Falardeau instead of Stoll in 2002, and Jessiman instead of Getzlaf in 2003 had me ready to pull my hair out.
The only thing that would've taken my frustration to a new level would've been if they passed on Ladd in 2004.

They better not pull such a stunt. If they really want Podkolzin trade up and get him. I doubt he will go in the top 5/6. Trade a Buch and Kreider if necessary along w the Winnipeg if you like him that much. Hands off KaapoI don't blame you. I've seen Datsyuk comparisons for Podkolzin. But I would be surprised if they took him over a guy who is ready to step in now...and is considered to be a potential franchise player in his own right.

Barring an injury at their upcoming tournaments, New Jersey are taking Jack Hughes and we are taking Kakko. No need to concern ourselves with having that conversation.
Unless Bobrov has insane pull (he may) and a massive KHL fetish (he doesn't) there is nothing to worry about. Kakko is ready to step in right away. He'll have at least 2 years of NHL experience under his belt before Podkolzin plays a game in this league. No matter how you slice it, thats like an impossible sell for the fan base even if Podkolzin were as good. One of our Euro scouts has strong ties to TPS, Kakko played at a PPG pace after the WJC's.
The only way the Rangers don't get him is if the Devils take him first.
I hope it happens, stay wanting Kaapo. It’s locked in stone. Just let it happen.
The Rangers-TPS connection is strong. Not just the scout who played for them, but also having drafted a player from TPS for the last 3 years (Reunanen in 2016, Virta in 2017 and Pajuniemi in 2018) plus scouting Georgiev while he was with TPS.
It's an interesting development. Or coincidence, depending how you look at it
Yes. And at the time, there was a lot of chortling around that description.Wasn't Falardeau the one they called the next Joel Otto?
