Rumor: Dallas Stars have approached Wyatt Johnston's camp with an 8-year contract offer that would pay him slightly over 8M per season.

Should be starting with a 10.

There's going to be a lot of shocked fans with the rising CAP.

8 for Johnston is a massive lowball. Brock Boeser is looking for 8 right now and Wyatt Johnston is a much better player in a much better age gap.
rfa years are worth way less than ufa years…

Johnston is 21 now and if he signs a deal for 8 years it would be 4 rfa years and 4 ufa years. And is a center.

Boesser is 28. Any deal he signs: They’re all ufa years. And is a winger.

Neither of these situations would be used to derive the value of the other.

A better comparable for the situation would be Seth Jarvis who:

Signed at the same age selling the same number of rfa years.

Is also a scoring center

Seth Jarvis signed in 2024 and his aav is 7.420.

In Dallas players do not pay state income tax. It would be expected that there is a slight discount due to this.

I’d guess that the player signs for similar to Jarvis and that the reporting is inaccurate.

My guess here is about 7.6Mx8. A slight discount over the 7.9 or so as derived from Jarvis. Perhaps the contract holdup is not over the aav. I suppose the terms, such as structure of the pay or bonuses could change the numbers if Johnston’s preferences are significantly different than Jarvis but I don’t think this is a case where 9s or 10s will be involved.

Well we've apparently already offered more than that and it's been declined. It'll come it at least 8.5M per.
