That defense is going to get caved in on.
Well I removed Joker who was our worst defenseman this past season in our top 6, and I struggle to find a way to really improve our defense when we have an allocation of ice time to Power/Dahlin/Byram already. Those guys will eat PP time and ES. So I tried to find someone who can play some PK and small ES without breaking the bank and on a 1 year deal.

I am not sure I want to pencil Benson into a top 6 role yet. Prefer some additions to push players down. If we can get both a top 6 C and W, can also buyout Skinner.

Which mythical top 6C are you moving Thompson for?
Well there's this guy

With better depth we can have some rotation. We also don't have to have a typical top 6. We could have 3 leading lines with different skills and playstyles.

Peterka-Thompson-Savoie could be exciting in the future as well as Kulich-Cozens-Tuch
and then we still have Benson and Quinn left.
If we could add someone like Konecny until guys like Savoie and Kulich are ready we could have lots of options as early as next season and our top 9 could be pretty interchangable.

Charlie Coyle and Pavel Zacha are 1-2 for the Bruins. Maybe that's the top 6 C?
And you'd have to give them an actual top 6 C for them to be willing to part with Zacha (Coyle ain't going anywhere), not picks and prospects. Boston is not rebuilding so I don't buy it, even though you're only joking.

I guess if Boston lands their 1C in free agency, maybe they will be able to afford shopping Zacha; but even then, they'd probably prefer to keep all three.

I know, I know. I was being facetious about what is or is not a top 6 center. Also consider that both of them grew into those roles this year and when acquired weren't really thought of as having that sort of future.

Yeah, a lot of us look silly for laughing at the idea of Coyle/Zach as the top 2 Cs. Just like they made us look silly the season before when we all predicted an end to their playoff run, and they went on to break regular season records. Boston just makes everyone look silly as a full time job

Noticed a Pens retool thread and the names of possible available guys:

Reilly Smith, mid-6 winger with winning experience
Noel Acciari, pain in the ass physical 4th liner
Lars Eller, experienced 3rd line center/LW

I was hoping for either of Acciari or Eller last summer, not sure how much tread is on either tire and Acciari has an 8-team NTC which means he's probably not going to B'lo. Same for Smith in terms of having a multi-team NTC but who knows if he's close with Tuch or somesuch.

Throwing it out there.

Kulich 1st would be the base.
For who?

Not as attractive as the other potential options that have been discussed recently, but decent fallback options.

On that note, I think we can cross Joshua off our list after last night lol.

Typically the target for me.

Kulich 1st would be the base.
So a team like Calgary that would look to move guys like Kadri or Backlund as they ain't trading prime top 6C. So you would move the 11OV and a blue chip prospect for an anchor contract that will age like macaroni salad in 100f heat.

Agreed that Acciari likely isn't waiving to come here. I'm still of the opinion that he's the guy that Adams went after but didn't get in the offseason.

Eller though? Good on the PK, good in the dot? 3C/4C/wing flexibility? Yep, I'd take him here in an instant.

If Adams was willing to trade Mittelstadt, I don't think he even views top 6 center as a need. He thinks we are all set with Thompson and Cozens. He wants to add a center but I highly doubt it's the type of player that would supplant either of the two we have. Just a match-up guy. Maybe in five years when Ostlund is fully developed we will have quality center depth again.

So when it is Kotkaniemi will we riot or will we give it a chance?

I know, I laughed too. Riot it is.
