The more time I spend doing offseason mocks, the more I want to trade Jeff Skinner.
I think you would also have to be prepared to buy him out.

"Jeff, waive your NMC we want to trade you to the Sharks"

"Nope"

Do you want him on the team at this point? Where will his head be at?

I can deal wi5h Kotkaniemi as 3C.
You want 6 years on this on a $5M AAV with a NTC? That's a no thanks from me.

"Jeff, waive for the Kings or Blues, or the new coach is going to use you like Krueger"

If he's moving, it's to a team that's close and also considered a shoo-in for the playoffs. Otherwise, he wouldn't wave, and if I was him, I wouldn't wave either. He can sit in the press box here close to home and maybe get in playoff games next year or he can play on a worse team really far away and be farther way from the playoffs - and make the same money. Sabres have very little leverage.

The teams I named are either in the playoffs now, or missed closer than Buffalo did.

If you retain him and Dahlin at 50% and add Benson I think Toronto will take that package. They might even give us a 3rd or something back.

I don't take much stock in these little charts.

But he has always impressed me in that role when I've watched him
I don't think you're watching them or him enough. He's almost universally considered one of the worst contracts in the league. There was even a thread on it in the main forum, and every single Canes fan hates the contract, and every person who watches them laughs at it.

Part of the main board thread is so that Hab fans can and do gloat.

And yes, that contract is bad for a team that is looking to squeeze talent into a contending roster. His 22-23 fancy stuff looks a lot better than this year IIRC - it's part of the volatility of those things where a player who is struggling will certainly have crap charts.

His regular stats look like crap too -- what makes him a player we should be targeting? He looks bad on any stat site I can find, and Carolina fans seem to hate him too. I don't see any redeeming qualities, especially when he's headed towards being bought out as it is. His faceoffs aren't horrible?

And you're wrong, it wasn't just Habs fans criticizing his contract -- not even close.

I don't think anyone is suggesting we specifically target JK.

I think it's more "Hey, JK might be available if Carolina gets into a cap crunch....he's pretty solid defensively and could be a pretty solid 3rd line center/PKer. Yeah, that contract blows, but it wouldn't be the worst thing to happen."

Carolina has a ready-made 3rd line center in Drury to take JK's place should he shake loose. JK would be cheap, and it's not like we can't afford him. And the buyout would be dirt cheap if he really doesn't work out (at least for the first 2 years).

Again -- I wouldn't be like "Hey, Adams should go get JK".

The main driver of people shitting on KK are Hab fans.

As for his stats - go back a year and he looks strong defensively and the line with Necas and TT does some 60+% CF stuff while he was very good at shot suppression. Heck, him as the safety blanket for Necas and Svech was almost as good.

Drury would be the guy I would prefer, but that's likely not who is available. KK falls into the realm of available.

I'd prefer to wait for the inevitable buyout so we don't have that contact attached. Otherwise, I'd make them pay for us to take it, but I don't think we're at the stage where we should be taking on assets (that we already have too many of) to take on cap dumps.

I'd be happy to re-sign him for what he's worth, which is half of his current contract.

Again, no they weren't -- plenty of fans from every other team also weighed in on that thread. No one likes him or the contract.

I'll happily take him on eth team after he gets bought out, at a more reasonable price. But we aren't at he stage where we should be taking on cap dumps.

Have carolina buy him out thrn dign him at $3M per.

That contract is not worth the risk unless you think you can revive him in 2 yrs then eat the buyout in summer 2026

A glimmer of hope for those wanting to buyout Skinner

Skinners base salary next year is 10 million ... that saves Terry like 7 million dollars next year.

I still think it's a bad idea and not likely to happen but I think there is a much better chance today of it happening then I did a month or two ago

Cash wise he would be due 2/3rds of what he is owed. He’s owed 22M over the next 3 years. So it’s around 15M. So he’d cost the pegulas 5M more in cash next year, but save 7M over 3 years.

It saves us 7M in CAP SPACE next season because of how the contract is structured

Oh. I totally read that wrong. Thanks for correction.

Didn't know they got all the cash upfront.
