OT: The Re-Brand Of The Avalanche

It's been a while since I've posted anything here, but I still pop in from time to time. I noticed that Avs concept over at icethetics and coincidentally, I have just finished an Avs concept myself. I sent it in to Icethetics the other day, but I'd like to hear the reaction from my fellow fans first and where better than from you fine people.

The first one reminds me too much of the Sharks (grey and blue at the bottom of the jersey). Reminds me more of a wave than a mountain. I like the blue and white look of the third.

As you can see it is a redux of sorts but introduces something familiar in a classic, but modern way. Things are a little simpler without loosing the uniqueness that screams Colorado. In past uniforms, the home and away haven't completely matched up in terms of color. The white sweaters used grey/silver, but the dark uniforms did not and instead utilized white and black (although there was grey in the socks, but they didn't quite match the piping in the rest of the jersey). I wanted to sync things up by making the set more uniform in their color scheme. I thought of eliminating black, but having the gloves, pants, and helmets any other color looks weird. Instead, I managed to incorporate the white, black, and grey in both primary uniforms without making too big of a change.

As for the alternates, they obviously take inspiration from the past uniforms of the Quebec Nordiques. I think it's important for teams to pay tribute to their roots without going overboard with it. The Avs are no longer in the Nordiques, but I think that a subtle nod to the previous organization would be a good thing. However, in doing so they don't change their identity. This is an Avalanche sweater plain and simple. The highlighting of blue, white, and grey reminds one of the chilly snow capped rockies, but does so in such a way that it creates a certain continuity if you will. As much as we all love those glorious burgundy thirds, I decided to go in a different creative direction that heralds to a little bit of history of the Avalanche club.

Anyhow, what do you guys think?

They are infinitely better than the current jerseys.

I like them, particularly the 3rd jersey design, but:
on the home & away, I don't like the shape of the stripes at the bottom of the jerseys.
and, on the 3rd jersey, I don't like the darker blue triangle on the bottom of the jersey -- looks like they wet themselves...

"You're not cool, unless you pee your pants!"

"If peeing your pants is cool, consider me Miles Davis."

Just mocked this up in paint so it's a little rough around the edged (literally) but this is what I want to see

Nope. The biggest thing that gets me is the lack of contrast boundary between the dark blue/burgundy. In motion, the colors look muddled and combined. Those two shouldn't be side-by-side, especially with our black pants. As Tiger pointed out, that set is too dark as it is. I hate piping, but you need some sort of white boundary to separate those two colors.

I do appreciate the effort though! Probably an improvement on the unipron, where we have that stupid clavicle piping just interrupting negative space. Our jerseys are such a mess.

I never get the beef with the Avs jerseys. The color scheme alone makes it one of the most unique jerseys in hockey. Combined with the logo, I've always found the Avs to have a really powerful look.

This was posted about a year ago on hockey jerseu concepts but I've never seen it. Certainly a different looking approach. I'd like to see it with black pants since it almost looks like the old purple and green mighty ducks uniforms.

I know we don't want to look like big raspberries but how many teams have pants that don't even match?

Black is really the only way to go. We don't have green, red or a regular blue in our jerseys so the only other colour is black. Phoenix went with pants to match their uniforms and it looks awful imo.

I know what you mean though. Maybe our next jerseys will have more black in them so the pants don't look so bad. I think the only way we could go with burgundy pants are if the primary colour of our jerseys is blue but I don't want them to take burgundy away from our primary colour. Either thator darken the blue in our logo and jerseys and go with blue pants.

The piping is the only issue for me. The logo, font, pants, etc are fine IMO. The piping just messes everything up and makes our home jerseys look like a clown costume.

Same observations as you which are spot on. Otherwise, these jerseys are a thumbs up.

However, my next jersey will probably be the stadium series one vs. the Wings. Only the NHL knows how much that'll set me back.

Is anyone skilled in making jersey designs on Icethetics? PM me if you're willing to explain it to me

Helmets, gloves.

I think we're better off adding the black back on the jersey than switching pant colors.

This. Not to mention the "puck" on the logo is black....
Replacing the black pants/helmets with burgundy or blue is like asking Philly to replace black pants with orange ones...

Just deal with the fact that Avs are not only about burgundy and blue, but about black, white and silver as well. While those other colors have only complementary function, they are as essential for the design to work as whole as the primaries. Throw away just one and you are breaking it. Whoever did it back in the 90s, did know, what he was doing and did it right.

More Chambers dumb-assery:

Personally, I’d eliminate the bigfoot patches on the shoulder. Did the Avs ever introduce the bigfoot mascot? Those patches should have been eliminated long ago, right?

I guess Howler never existed? The foot logos are fine. Chambers showing once again that he just is a complete and utter buffoon

Oy, Chambers, you idiot! Stop misinforming the masses. Let me guess, he wants to change our colors to burgundy and gold? And put "DENVER" across the front??

I don't have an issue with the design itself, I think the old Rockies logo is neat. That said, it will never happen. For one, that's not even our franchise anymore and two the SS designs are from the NHL and will match both the Red Wings and the Wild/Blackhawks jerseys. They will not be that catered to us and what far flung logos we want to use. I never had issue with the foot, its different and we should cling to as much uniqueness as we can before being assimilated into boring/classic/non-descript look as much as people want us to be. If they traded out the foot with some Colorado flag patches I'd be down with that though. The Colorado flag is really becoming a "brand" sort of thing around here, its not just for tourist shop keychains and mugs but its being used all over as logos on stuff that people actually wear on a regular basis. So it would feel fresh and "hip" to somehow work it in but as the old Rockies logo, probably not.

I don't like the Stadium Series (Rockies style) jerseys that everyone is drooling over on twitter. I've said many times before that I don't ever want to see the logo changed but if it is the only thing I approve of is a more modern version with less swirls and circles and a bolder A. There's a concept which I have posted on here many times which I love. Hejduk's name and number is on it. Id still prefer to keep our current logo but wouldn't be upset if everything switched to that. Especially if it was just for a stadium series game.

edit: found it. I love this thing. Again, i'd prefer to keep what we have but i've always love this.

Also wouldn't hate someting like this as a secondary logo. With the C in Avs Burgundy, The blue in Avs blue and the yellow in Avs gray. If somebody could make that happen on photoshop i'd be interested in seeing it.

That's neat, I like both Cs. I don't want our logo changed but for a one off I'm ok with more creative interpretations. One other idea, keep the jerseys the same but do Colorado flag colors. The Colorado flag is a real prideful thing around here, if they designed a jersey around it many local and casual fans would dig it. I'm not sure the NHL will get that exotic tho.

Not sure why anyone would want to chnage our current logo. Its one of the best in league IMO. The jerseys do need a major overhaul though.
