The Race for the Calder Trophy

He has by far the least talent out of all the rookies that he's playing with, he leads all rookies in goals (and this is with one taken away from him)
You think he's the only player to lose points due to goals being called back?

and he's leading his team in scoring already.
He's tied with 38 year old Corey Perry for the team lead in scoring, who is getting 5 mins less ice time per game.

Oh and he's the youngest rookie out of all of them too.
That's not relevant to who the has been the best rookie.

Not even mentioning the brutal schedule the Hawks have played so far, what he's doing so far is damn impressive.
He's certainly shown that he's got a ton of talent, but I don't think he's been that great. He's had some great moments but he's also had a lot of bad moments.

Taylor Hall (or some might say the corpse cuz he's still injured and older) isn't even on his line right now. And he's missed 4 of the 11 games.
Okay? This just sounds like more excuses.

Just on defense, Mintyukov, Hughes, Faber have all had better starts to the season.

I think everyone just assumes it's Bedard's to win. Even though he's pretty far down the list of best rookies through 10-11 games.
Really what is your Calder list as of now?

I would be really surprised if the leader in goals (tie) and second in points but far and away the leader in scoring chances isn't in your top 3.

Rossi could jump into the discussion if he gets an extended look with Kaprizov and/or Boldy.

Right now

Mintyukov
Hughes
Cooley

HM: bedard, faber, poitras, dostal

There are also people like grieg, lacombe, woll, brink, Rossi that prob at least deserve to get some sort of mention.

Actually it does every year, it's called the eye test.
Who was the last rookie to win the Calder based on eye tests, going against points? I guess one could point to Bunting placing behind Zegras for 2nd/3rd despite being two points ahead, but I’d think there were further considerations there.

Faber needs so much more love it’s not even funny. He’s not an OFD so he won’t win but he’s being tasked and excelling in a role that not even Mintyukov or Hughes are tasked with.

- Averaging almost 24 minutes a night. This leads all rookies by a ridiculous amount. He leads the Spurgeon-less Wild blueline in ice time. Lacombe is second at a smidge over 20 minutes.

- He’s 4th in the entire NHL - this is all players in even strength ice time per game. This is incredible for a rookie.

- He leads the Wild not only in ice time but also tied with Brodin in short handed ice time.

- In that top pairing ice time he’s got 4 points and is a +5 in 11 games on a team that is a collective -7 in go differential. So it would be one thing if he’s getting the heaviest, hardest monster minutes and is struggling - but he’s not.

I said it when he was a prospect - Faber can be a Slavin level defenseman (minus a couple inches of size). He’s an absolute stud and few realize just how much of one because he’s not showing up at the top of “sorts rookies by points”.

I put Bedard in the top 3 but there isn't a huge gap thru 11 games with the next 3 players.

I would put Mintyukov, Hughes and Bedard in the top 3. Then Cooley, Dostal
Faber not far behind (Dostal was the NHL Rookie of The Month).

Faber is excellent…. He prob won’t generate enough love due to the type of game he plays… but he’s just as impactful as anyone that is a finalist

Which is exactly why people are saying they expect him to eventually get ahead of the other rookies. But as of right now (due to the reasons you just listed and good play from other players) he is not the clear winner.

There's a difference between saying that.. and that poster saying he was "far down the list" of the other rookies which is beyond laughable.

Bedard is sitting at (-8) but thankfully he’s passing some scoring chance eye test. How many chances is he bleeding against?

Reminds me a lot of Brodin's rookie year. Obvious to everyone the impact he had, but it's just not as flashy as points even if it affects the team's chances as much.

Even on points Bedard is tied for second place with 7 1 point behind the leader and in a tie for goals with 5 and some of the voters do watch more games than others.

Can't stand the laugh emoji reaction when used to belittle peoples opinion. Most people are giving their honest estimation and anyone not kowtowing to your view you have used that emoji way to often.

How old are you? I'm getting the impression we're dealing literally with a 14 year old.

I don't think Faber has been as good as Brodin's rookie year, although he has been very good. If I had to pick one Wild rookie to be in the conversation right now, I'd say Rossi over Faber. Rossi is consistently all over the ice generating offense.

Of course I have none of the advanced stats that people will come to me with to show me Faber has been an analytics darling or something, but just based on watching the games, Rossi has been a better player than Faber to me.

I wonder how much "extra credit" he'll get for being in the conversation after what he's been though with the myocarditis thing. Kinda like a lot of people assume if it's a close race, Bedard will get the edge because he has the hype and pedigree, but I wonder if Rossi will get any "sympathy votes".

Didn't mean to say he is as good as Brodin was--just will suffer in consideration for the same reasons.
IDK about Rossi. people might complain he's old :)
