The Race for the Calder Trophy

Rossi has been great and just got put on a line with Kaprizov and Boldy for 40 minutes leading to 2 points. He might be about to explode as that line was too good to break up. The only thing holding him back a bit might be he won't get put on the first PP unit yet and many other rookies are benefiting a lot from PP points.
rossi Has scored an important goal vs rangers tonight. His line has dominated tonight so i guess he will continue to be the 1C for them....

Would guess that if Rossi stays healthy and continues to play with Boldy and/or Kaprizov that he’ll end with 50-60 points. Won’t be enough to win in this class. He should have a real shot of winning the Masterton though.

I’d support the masterton ballot, was worried for a while that what he went through could relegate him to a pedestrian career but he’s looking good. Makes you wonder where he would be currently had he never had that scare.

Certainly not on that alone. But if it’s a really close race, I could see that helping to put him over the top.
It's a "close" race right now but the Calder is for Bedard to lose basically he is still playing extremely well and generates much more offense than any other rookie.

Yeah and another important factor should definitely be how they rank in scoring relative to the rest of their team. I suspect Bedard will be at the top there.

Cooley would like a word. Bedard will win if it’s even close because of the media hype, though.

One thing Bedard has over most of the rookies that are in the talks to be rookie of the year, is he is doing most of his damage at even strength.

He strung a few solid games together, but was terrible last night. He was invisible aside from two very bad giveaways that directly led to goals against, including one where he showed pretty much no effort to get back into the play and help out defensively.

I know he won't win but Poitras 2-way game, details on the defensive and neutral zone is phenomenal. I know most will scoff at him out of bitterness, yet again out of nowheres BOS finds 2nd round steal.

He probably has the most rounded game out of the rookies.

I love that everyone is saying “X has been great but he won’t win”. Like everyone is afraid to jinx their player haha.

What? He's had some great moments but he's had some really awful games as well. He was brutal last night and arguably cost the Hawks the game. He's not creating enough offense overlook some of his warts.

I'm quite certain he'll figure it out, but it's gonna take time. But at this point there's at least 4-5 guys who have been more impressive.

Bedard is not a guarantee to be be in the Crosby or McDavid class. Could absolutely be a peak Kariya, Yzerman or Dionne level.

I think that’s prob a fair statement so far.

He’s def not top 3 so far…. And there are a lot of people after that who have arguments over him.

Now everyone assumes eventually he’ll pull away, and most likely he will but right now it’s an open field

He has by far the least talent out of all the rookies that he's playing with, he leads all rookies in goals (and this is with one taken away from him) and he's leading his team in scoring already. Oh and he's the youngest rookie out of all of them too.

Not even mentioning the brutal schedule the Hawks have played so far, what he's doing so far is damn impressive.

Taylor Hall (or some might say the corpse cuz he's still injured and older) isn't even on his line right now. And he's missed 4 of the 11 games.

Which is exactly why people are saying they expect him to eventually get ahead of the other rookies. But as of right now (due to the reasons you just listed and good play from other players) he is not the clear winner.

No one disagrees with any of that… and everyone fully expects bedard to win the hen seasons over…. But right now he hasn’t pulled ahead
