The Race for the Calder Trophy

This is such a misguided notion here as the other teams are playing their top guys against Bedard and he is a true rookie so that plus minus will of course look bad but make no mistake Bedard is the frontrunner for the Calder and for good reason.

Ill agree with you once he stop getting one of the highest percentage of offensive zone start while floating cherry picking rushes most shifts.

Until then, he a overtalented on ice liability.

With Brodin and Spurgeon both out, Faber has been 1D playing 30+ minutes with good results the last two games. Both wins.

Showing hes not just a product of Brodin.

In the Hynes Era, he is averaging over 25 minutes a night.

He’s been good but he’s a slow developing prospect not the type that will challenge for Calder unless it’s a weak year, which this isn’t.
That's weird. I had 50 leaf fans yelling at me before the season started because I had the audacity to claim he wasn't going to be a finalist.:laugh:

He has a lot of intangibles that wouldn’t really hold much weight in a Calder race. He’s big, physical and plays well but his offence will take a while to develop at the pro level IMO

He's not as good as the top players in this year's rookie crop and never will be, even if he did have 4 points in the playoffs last year.

No shame in that. Some of these guys are going to be superstars.

He's a guy every good team would love to have, and usually every winning team does have one. He's not the guy though.

He's a bit older, but 15 points in 20 games for Zary and a +5. Second in rookie PPG behind only Bedard of rookies to play meaningful minutes (.83 Bedard - .75 Zary).

Flames slight turnaround in their season coincides with Zary getting more meaningful minutes. Deserves to be mentioned.

Faber has been pretty unreal.

Unfortunately his outstanding game isn't the type what's gonna get the Calder votes.

The Wild really got themselves a gem with Faber

Connor Zary moving into 4th place despite having only played 21 games.

I want to put a bet in: Leo Carlsson torches the race for Calder runner-up by season’s end.

It might not look that way right now. But I firmly believe he will be rolling hard very soon and perhaps just perhaps this vision of mine comes to fruition.

The trophy is obviously Bedards. Barring injury. And even then.

This is a power of hype.

We are talking about this current season. If we could be gm who can trade picks for only one season and playoff of young player to make the team better only for now - for this season, not for 8-10 years, we are close to win SC, we have opportunity to trade for only one young player, and after he will go to the market - it wouldn't be Bedard. Teams will prefer Faber, Hughes, Zary, Nemec or Rossi. Because all of them are playing more competent two way game, they can be real middle six players or second pair defensemen. And they can compete. Bedard is good, skills are good, he is flashy. But he and Fantilli are not your guys to make your roster better for the big hunt. Now, in the moment of time. But we are talking about Calder, ofcourse Bedard will learn how to be competent 200 foot player. But for now he isn't best rookie. He is the productivest. Yeah, he is great for 18 yo, not so great for winning games now.

And of course Bedard will win it. Because its nhl.

If we're GM's picking one of these rookies for a playoff run for this year only, I don't see how you choose anyone but Faber.
