Crosby has a better supporting cast yes, but using Mario is a bad example. He played like 10 games.Re : "The Penguins had Recchi, Palffy, LeClair, etc. and Gonchar to run the PP."
And, don't forget, Mario came out of retirement.
Bedard has one of the worst teams I've seen around a potential superstar in a LONG time. Also, of his 18 points, ONLY 3 are on the PP. That's insane.
At the 1/4 mark, he deserves it.
How is jad getting screwed? Maclellan is giving him him his shot at rookie stardomOddly placed comment, what about him? Other than he got screwed by his coach and is seeing his career get wasted?
Wel he isn’t a rookie so this doesn’t belong on this thread. How is jad getting screwed? Maclellan is giving him him his shot at rookie stardom
Actually, how do you measure how weak a team is? The Pens finished second to last with a 35.4 P% and Oilers second to last as well with 42.7 P%. Blackhawks currently second from the bottom and 33.3 P%.
I went back and looked at Crosby through the start of his rookie season to December 1st. He was second on the team in points to Ziggy Palffy--Palffy had 25 in 23 and Sid had 23 in 23. Recchi was still as strong player at that point too, and Mario also had 18 points in 23 games. Bedard is easily leading his team in scoring and doesn't have anywhere close to that level of supporting talent at the top of the lineup...so in that sense what he's done has been extremely impressive.Crosby has a better supporting cast yes, but using Mario is a bad example. He is getting screwed because the coach hardly plays him. He is actually a very good middle 6 player if given a chance.
That's a bigger gap than Bure/Lidstrom and we all know how this race is going to turn out.I think Luke could end up stealing this thing from Bedard. He's emerged as the Devils best defenseman. He's got the best xGA/60 of all devils dmen while pacing for 53 points playing 20 mins a night.
In the hypothetical where he continues his excellent defensive play and ends up around 10 goals 55 points, and Bedard scores around 40 goals 70 points, I think that's probably pretty close to a coin flip.
What would you do, alternatively? The PHWA is a joke, why do we tie the league's major awards to an organization that has zero requirements for hockey experience?
Correct. He played 26. 10 the season before.I went back and looked at Crosby through the start of his rookie season to December 1st. It's kinda sad that the Hawks sold out so hard to get him that now that he's here he has no talent to play with.
Have a mix of active and former NHL scouts complete the ballot. What would you do, alternatively?
10 games with Mario if better than 82 game with the clowns Bedard has.Crosby has a better supporting cast yes, but using Mario is a bad example. He played like 10 games.
It was 26. I acknowledged my mistake in a previous post. 10 games the season before.10 games with Mario if better than 82 game with the clowns Bedard has.
P.S. I think it was 26 games...
Fair enough. Like I said, I just want Bedard to remain healthy. It was 26. I acknowledged my mistake in a previous post. 10 games the season before.
Also I’m not arguing the supporting cast. Crosbys was better even though still crap.
I agree. I'm really beginning to see it that way (in part triggered by the discussion here as ther have been a few more games)I almost wonder if, given the rosters, that makes Bedard more impressive? It’s obviously so hard to compare guys in different situations so far apart. But, I at least think it’s fair to say that Bedard has the worst linemates.
Guess the next 60 or so games don't matter then. F*** it. No chance a rookie ever craps the bed. Just hand it to him now.People think there’s a Calder race this year?
The race is for second spot unless Bedard gets injured for significant time.
Bedard was the third best rookie on the ice in today's game.
lol if Bedard switched places with Rossi he’d be averaging 4 pts per game.Bedard was the third best rookie on the ice in today's game.

Wow how spicy.
Move over Connor Bedard, welcome Wild's Brock Faber and Marco Rossi to the Calder Trophy race
On a day when generational talent Bedard was in town, it was the Wild rookies who stole the show in a 4-1 victory over Chicago.theathletic.com
Spicy enough to go into mainstream print, I read this after my original post.
