There are literally like 1,000's of examples of this happening. In fact, this is the case for almost every player who goes on to be successful outside of a few elite level guys (Crosby, Ovechkin, etc.).

I mean, just on our roster - Kreider and Zibanejad were first round picks that struggled not just for 1 year, but for a few, before settling into productive NHL players (of course I'm ignoring the outlier that was Kreider's playoff success).

You might not have patience with guys who are 19 and 20, but it is extremely rare for players to step into the NHL, especially at their respective ages and light it on fire.

Geez, just look at arguably the best player in the NHL this year, look at his first year numbers..... 9 goals and 9 assists in 52 games. Were Tampa fans whining like little bitches over him in his rookie season?

Why should Pionk get love when the majority of what he does is stink up the ice and he has shown zero progression/development over the course of the year?

Other players this year have shown growth and have gotten better. Pionk sucked at the beginning of the season and he sucks now. He only has a few good moments here and there. The only difference is he isn't putting up points at an unsustainable pace anymore.

There is something strange going on with Quinn and Pionk. He seems to have a different level of expectations for many other young players, and with his use of benching if he’s not seeing what he wants, he’s gotten players to play better leading to growth, most notably with DeAngelo and Buchnevich. On the other hand, it doesn’t appear that he’s set a higher standard for Pionk.

everyone thinks that quinn loves pionk. but i think its the opposite. I think he keeps sending him out there because he knows he's not of the future so it doesn't really matter. he's harder on TDA cause his development matters

Coaches always have different expectations for different players.
