We're allowed to have bad games. I mean we're allowed to when we're good, we're certainly allowed to when we're not good. Embarrassing? No. Frustrating? Sure. One rebuilding team took it to another rebuilding team. It happens.

Seriously though I was saying months ago Howden needed to be sent down to Hartford. I don't know why they didn't do it. Probably for the same reasons they keep riding Pionk, whatever those reasons may be.

Ah well. Season's over soon enough.

What's in Hartford that's gonna benefit him? I was of that opinion that some players should be sent down earlier in the year but I think it's a bad scene down there and nobody generally benefits from being there.

lemieux

also it was detroit right after ted linsday died i’ll give them this game
True, Lemieux was solid. I like having him on the team, his forechecking ability is so needed and he's got decent hands. Not gonna get many apples but if he can pop in 15 goals that would be great.

I think all of us expected 2 pts tonight especially with Larkin and Green out. We only got 1 which is good long term. We just played poorly enough to have lost in regulation. Our goaltending keeps us in every game. If we had a Bernier playing for us we would be were the senators are.

Something like if we won 8 or 9 of those 12 games we lost in OT/SO, the talk of rebuilding and selling off players might be different.
That’s kind of backwards thinking on his part, or at least looking at it with rose colored glasses. It’s the NHL, the parity is very strong. Even bad teams can keep it close. There’s a reason the teams that lead the league in one goal games and games that go to OT or shootouts are mostly the weaker teams in the league.

Zibanejad reminds me of Jagr the way he outmuscles, outmaneuvers, and protects the puck from every player on the ice. And the skate/sock tuck look.

Howden played a decent game, I think he came into the league playing shifty WHL hockey, he had pretty good results to start the season, and somewhere around November/December he got indoctrinated into the Quinn school of hockey. He is re-learning how to play the game.

Lemieux recovered nicely from the post-honeymoon hangover. He forms a good winger pairing with Buch

Also, was anyone else here (team tank) also rooting for athanasiou all game? Special player...

I outlined in another thread the various players that have developed well down there, including Lindgren, Gettinger, and Fogarty, among others.

But the point isn't to gain anything specific other than maybe some confidence. You see him miss layups like tonight, and they cut to him on the bench, and he just looks absolutely defeated. In those circumstances I think it can be beneficial to go down and face some softer competition and maybe find your game again.

I mean at this point in the season it may not matter. Earlier, though, he looked completely ineffective and totally lost and I thought it would be helpful. Again, not to receive any specific instruction, just to kind of take some of the pressure off while he gets back to what makes him successful.

I also thought Andersson should have taken his spot months ago but that's a separate discussion.

He's not going to be threading needles but I think that there is the potential for him to get to 15-20.

Plays like the one he made on the first goal should be something that he can replicate on the semi-regular, or at least I hope he can.

I don't know who dropped the comparison, but if he puts it together he's Micheal Ferland.

@Glen Sathers Cigar This is for you also. I didn’t want to repeat it.
There are a lot of fans that, if that had occurred, would be talking a different narrative. I don't think it would have changed anything from the FO's point of view, but I don't think he's wrong to suggest "the talk" may be different, shortsighted as it may be.

There's also some logical problems with the "if we had won 9 of those 12" losses, but whatever, I get what he's saying and sadly, he's probably right.

Would've been better to lose in regulation but oh well.

Athanasiou plays so well against the Rangers because he's basically built for the late Torts/early AV Era Rangers. All teams have a few "players who should have been drafted by another team."

I think a lot of Chytil's problems are with this stick experiment. He's trying to use a straight stick like Kane. Stop, go back to the old one.

Kreider and Nieves together for a bit....Bern, you're a good man.

Lemiuex looked good. He needs a summer of proper training and 13-15 minutes every night and he could be a very valuable player for the next 5-7 years.

Sometimes you say things on TV for engagement and viewers and discussion because its 6 straight 1 goal losses now and thats not a fun thing to talk about.
