Howden's trash

I don’t t think he held onto it on purpose, he didn’t quite have the control he wanted right away after receiving the pass, it was a bit behind him. That pic is misleading as by the time he could shoot it Howard had gotten over and that short side wasn’t wide open anymore

He botched it. The pass was definitely good enough to one-time. Maybe he's on the tank team?

They'll end up with the 5th worst record. Just wait another 5 games for despair over the lack of offense to set in.
That’s very unlikely imo, considering the current standing. We will end up 6th from bottom is my guess.

Just so brutal. He must’ve shot with his eyes closed. He shot low left, the only area of the net not wide open. That after holding the puck too long letting Howard get over. That was just truly awful.
During real-time I felt that Buchnevich waited too long to pass. Not really fair for people to ride the kid after he's been out injured for a month. He still had an assist ... that line scored the only Rangers goals and contributed 1/3 of the team's shot attempts.

On the one hand, I'm extremely pleased with the effort this group has shown night in, night out for the entire season (sans a few games here and there).

On the other hand, I can't imagine a season worse than this one. We knew that this team was not going to be good this year. We knew the playoffs were never a possibility. We knew the biggest victory was getting a high slot in the draft. Yet we have racked up so many damn loser points that as it stands now, we are very likely picking outside the top 5, if not closer to the 10thOA.

That is just awful compensation for a season in which we had no expectations. I hope we bottom out next year, but if not we are just going to go through another cycle of mediocrity/near misses in all likelihood unless a divine miracle appears such as a Datsyuk like player falling to us late.

Now would be the right time to sign Buchnevich on a long-term contract. Gotta give it to Quinn, DeAngelo and Buchnevich really stepped up lately.

Other than that, screw the loser point.

I felt the same way, that's not all on Howden there. Buch passed back against the grain, it was a tough one timer. That doesn't mean I am not on the same page as NYR2k2 though, I think Howden should have been sent to Hartford before Lias.

He still had the whole top half of the net. Didn't pick his head up until after the release on the shot, which isn't a good sign imo. But there's a lot to dissect on that play with Howden.

He couldve opened up better so he could have one-timed it, could have released it quicker despite not one-timing it. And still should have scored even after not quickly releasing it because the the whole top half of hte net was open, if he just took a peek...Oh well, were at overanalysis at this point.

I was just pissed Buch didn't get a point there after making helluva play to beat the check and gain entry and feather that sauce pass over Dekeyser

Yes, Howden should've had that. Hopefully that's not a re-occurring thing.

Yes, a 1 goal, 2 point night would've been more fun than a one assist night.

The glass half-full aspect of me says that at least he's getting into positions to be successful as opposed to being nowhere near where he should be --- especially in this third game back after missing a month.

Let's start there and hopefully get back on track.

Howden starting to look more and more like Jesper Fast playing center...

Have they ever been seen in the same room together?

Just not really ready to start saying stuff like "Howden is garbage", "awful" etc etc. Dude went straight from juniors to the NHL and started the season playing well but hit a wall, got injured, and is now only a few games back and people are bagging on him like he's Tanner Glass. He made some good plays and he made some bad plays last night and it's too bad he couldn't bury that one. It still looks to me like he didn't receive that pass comfortably, either it's a bit behind him or his stick just wasn't in the right position. It's kind of right on the toe of his stick and he almost seems like he felt he was losing the puck before he got it together and shot. Could he have made a better play? Sure. But I can't count how many times I've seen veteran NHLers we know and love shank a one timer from that spot and not even come vaguely close to hitting the net (Marty St Louis I'm looking at you). It's not an easy play regardless of who's taking the shot.

That all said...I want to see improvement from him next season. The big reason I'm so bummed about Pionk is that he showed some flashes of talent and ability last year despite his poor metrics but instead of improving on that this year he has gone backwards. I want to see Howden improve and I don't want to make excuses for him next season.

The challenge of having so many young talents, and suffering through a long season, is that everything they do is going to be under the microscope.

I think this board is so hungry for high-end talent, star talent that some almost get a weird masochistic thrill when the young talent we have struggles.
