Couldn’t have said it better myself. I like DeAngelo. I love his game. I want him to continue playing well. But then I see someone post some useless stat and claim he’s the best transition passer in the league and I roll my eyes and laugh.

I was a huge Pionk fan, but the guy just sucks. I’ve defended him for a while, but he only got worse. He has potential, but he does a lot more bad than good. ADA also gets much heavier defensive deployment, so I can’t use that as an excuse for Pionk any longer.

Balance, my friend...balance.

See...its a natural reaction I guess to balance out the overhyped, overblown analysis of a player who gets accolades like he is the second coming, yet hasn't proven a thing yet.....yes, he is displaying encouraging things, but when the sucking up becomes overwhelming, there will be a natural reaction to counterbalance that. Don't confuse this with people rooting for him to fail....those aren't real fans. We get charts of really ridiculous stuff, then it gets on the main boards, and we as a whole get branded as idiots. I know that doesn't matter, but every pass this guy makes seems like it should have angels singing.

DeAngelo has been consistently good for most of the season. What just happened was a defensive mistake of his that led directly to a goal, which hasn’t happened in a while. And you basically say he sucks at defense. I think you’re the one that is reactionary. It’s obvious that you’re way too hard on him for some reason.

And I apologize for getting excited about a prospect with tons of upside who is developing right in front of everyone’s eyes and slowly putting it all together. How dare I.

I don’t like overhyping young players, but DeAngelo has actually been consistently good for a while now, unlike Chytil or Andersson.

I think it was north of 60 games actually.

It was actually his entire NHL career, 2016-19 used for the sample size in that chart.

Why are people so adverse to the charts? Nobody is saying they are the be all end all. Nobody is saying TDA is really the best transition player in the league. But it’s just s tool to use in your analysis. You can see just watching the games TDA is really good at moving the puck in transition.

The point is that ADA gets a lot less hate than Pionk for the same mistake, I know. And you aren’t wrong, but Pionk hasn’t been consistently good like ADA, so he won’t get as much leeway. He makes more mistakes, and it’s becoming a trend.
