I'm a huge JG fan so far, but this "interview" made me nauseous. I'm hoping it's smokescreens, but it should be an easy pick at #2.
It has to be man. Just has to be. There is no doubt who the second best player in this draft is. Probably the most ready player as well.

Coming out of self imposed retirement to say "holy f'n chit...so damn happy" as the hockey gods have shined on us as for first time since we drafted Brad friggen Park back in 1966, we will actually have a top 3 pick in the draft.

And for those of my paranoid Ranger brothers in here who are worried that Gorts won't draft Kakko due to the interview he did....relax. He was just doing GM speak. It's a 99.99999 % certainty we will have our first sniper since we had Mike Gartner 25 years ago. That's unless the Debbies throw a curve ball and take Kakko themselves and leave Hughes for us. Either way, we are golden. The rebuild is going just as planned and don't know about y'all but this time next year I fully expect us to be playoff bound as all is good here in Rangerland...:)
Welcome back!!! I think you're right about Gorton doing the GM speak but every single new york paper should put pressure on him to draft Kakko lol

I can’t really sleep. This is too good to be true, man. This is definitely up there with the Stepan trade and the Stepan game 7 OT goal as the happiest moments I’ve experienced as a Rangers fan.
Agreed! I guess because I only really liked EP/Heiskanen and knew they wouldn't drop to 7 in the 2017 draft this is many tiers above that in terms of excitement. This to me had Stepan game 7 ot winner level excitement. Just something we have never experienced as Ranger fans.

Thanks my brother Blo2 for the welcome back first off. Secondly, I really don't think Gorts needs any pressure from the media to do what is the obvious right thing and take either Hughes or Kakko. We need to keep in mind, GMJG was the reason the Bruins won the Cup in 2011 as he built that team. He knows his chit. I have complete confidence as should you and every other Ranger brother of ours that Gorts knows either of those two players are going to be wearing Ranger unies at training camp come September.

It's not even a question about it. What's pretty damn cool about our astonishing good luck last night moving from #6 to the top 3 overall where we ended up #2, either Hughes if Debbies don't take Hughes for some reason or Kakko, it will accelerate the rebuild of ours exponentially and now I have not a doubt in my mind that at this time next April, we will be in the playoffs likely as lower seed but with our rebuild at it's peak with long playoff runs beginning 2021 and beyond.

We really need to be grateful for how well things have turned out for us and Gorton as I've said for years before some in here finally came on board, are starting to see we have a brilliant guy at the helm and we are poised for some great season like we have become accustomed to before the "letter" came out last year signifying a rebuild was necessary.

What's going to be really cool is that the Islanders and Devils are likely also going to be getting better at same time and will be trying their damnedest to prevent us from reaching our goals of a Cup and so a new era for all three teams will be commencing and playoff matchups between our three teams will finally take place again. And that my friend will be awesome for all three fanbases and great for hockey as well....:)

Larry Brooks already putting a little pressure on the Rangers brass to not go off the board ;)

Brooks should be, well, as happy as Larry....
He can now mount a semi-convincing case about to need to bring back Kevin Hayes (defensively reliable, 50 pt, veteran center) so that both Kravtsov and Kakko have an experienced center to work with

From the highlights I've seen of Kakko on YT , I see some Austin Matthews in him....I really do. And that my friends would be glorious for us. Man I am so stoked at what our future looks like.

A #1 line of Chytl, Kakko and Kravtsov circa 2022 is dancing thru my head as I type this...lol

This is unexpectedly fantastic.

First thoughts upon finding out:

1) Devils are the new Oilers?

2) Who will the Rangers go off the board for at #2?

I’m actually starting to warm up to Kakko now. Watching his highlights, reading his scouting reports, and listening to what people have to say about him, I kind of hope NJ takes Hughes and leaves Kakko for us.

The thing that scares the shit out of me is Podkolzin. We all know that our scouting staff think they’re the smartest guys in the room. Sometimes it works out and sometimes it doesn’t. Please don’t go off the board for Podkolzin. I know he’s a great prospect, but Kakko is definitely superior. And there’s no Russian factor with him obviously.

I’m with you, man. Haven’t been this happy in a while. But for me, I wasn’t as excited about the #7 spot (which was still awesome) as I was about DeAngelo, who was my favorite prospect at the time.

People should relax about “going off the board”. Yes they have done that before, they never also were in a position where there is only one player picked ahead of them for them to go off the board. It’s going to be Kakko. If not, it means we got Jack Hughes. If we landed the 3rd pick? Everyone here would at least have a valid argument about worrying who we pick. I still can’t sleep, what an amazing night!

I just hope that if Kakko doesn’t hit 60 points next year, people don’t start giving him the bust label.
Literally no one is going to do that. I sense some insecurity about other players, but LA’s point totals this year (which was his D+2 year) compared to 60 points for someone who just got drafted is a huge leap. Anything over 50 points for a player who just got drafted, and who can also play a 2-way game, is crazy good. I expect at least 35 points, and at most 50.

Don’t know if you guys noticed, but apparently Hughes and Kakko are now just ordinary scrubs in a “bad” draft year.

Enjoy the salt from all the other fan bases. It really is delicious.

Cheers to the rivalry renewed.

When was the last time a 1-2 draft with players so close were drafted by rival teams? This has the potential to turn the rivalry up to 100 with Hughes and Kakko battling it out several times a season

Two years ago with Nico and Nolan lol

Though to be fair Hughes and Kakko are supposedly closer to Matthews and Laine then Nico and Nolan.

Your being very optimistic here. You know how fans of this team are. Not everyone can think rational. Hopefully everyone can learn to become a little more patient and a little more optimistic. Your expectations are very reasonable as that's basically what I'm expecting too. I feel SOME may go off the rails if he doesn't come out of the gate at 30/30 as a Calder nominee.

Exactly. Especially Nolan Patrick seems to be far behind previous top-2 players. Hischier vs Pettersson is the more accurate comparison for the 2017 draft
