I’m still in disbelief, and I’m only 90% sure this isn’t a dream.

Anyways, I know what kind of player Kakko is, but can anyone help me out with his potential? If you could pick one player to compare him to (potential-wise, not style-wise) over the past few drafts, who would it be? I know it’s still early, but is he Matthews-level potential? Laine? Eichel? Worse?
I think he projects as a 40-40 type winger. Dominant puck control ability, elite hands, vision, hockey sense.

It took five years for the Penguins to make the playoffs after drafting Mario Lemieux first overall in 1982, it took eight years (and a trade) for Taylor Hall to make the playoffs after he was selected first overall by the Oilers in 2010 and it’s four years and counting for Jack Eichel in Buffalo.

People need to etch this opening paragraph from Brooks' column into their memory. I remain confident Grots is playing the long game.

Am I the only one who thinks #2 IS the no lose position? NJ takes Hughes, you take Kakko. They take Kakko, you take Hughes. There is no lose here. Thank You Hockey Gods for taking a night off when you usually take this opportunity to go full Bubba on our team.

Many people have been suggesting this idea.

At some point we are going to have to celebrate some hideous amorphous blob that crawled out of the primordial soup of Earth and onto land

I’m saving that for draft day.

“With today’s selection, this board has never been more united. I’d like to give a special shout out to the amebas that turned into fish-like creatures and eventually gave us Kakko. I’d also like to recognize the missing link, without whom we wouldn’t have evolved in this manner. Bryan Trottier, how you doin?”

So reading the other thread, the results were apparently leaked. I guess that happened because this wasn't done in real time? Or how else could that happen?

And Fox/Lafreniere/Byfield...forget about it. The future is about as bright as the sun. Can’t wait.

I think Matthews is a good comparison stylistically.
Thanks again for your help, but I said potential-wise, not style-wise;)

What I’m trying to get at is if he’s not a generational talent, is he a franchise player? Is he in between franchise and generational? Is he not franchise, but only elite?
