Here are some classic sparknotes from today's journey. More to come as I go through..

Oh God, Hughes vs Kakko for the next 20 years. @Machinehead

The universe will reward us for all those hard fought overtime losses @EdJovanovski

Edmonton is the guy that takes models home and doesn't bang them. We're the ones that always take the average girls home. @SnowblindNYR (((***reminder: without Edmonton beating Calgary after Georgiev stood on his head in Pittsburgh, we aren't here.)))

Slept for 4 hours but like a ****ing lunatic, I set my alarm at 2 AM for this ****. It better be worth it...."In 30 minutes we will reveal...." Are you kidding me? I woke up for this! Are you saying I could have slept for another 30 minutes?!?!?! It's 2 AM here, for ****s sake. Get it over with. @Amazing Kreiderman

I'm watching a cartoon with my daughter about a cat who can make flowers appear and blossom with her magic wand. Will need you guys to let me know how this goes. @egelband

Come on let’s move up 4 to 2oa - @zukeisgone

Gorton did indeed look pretty happy. Hope this is a sign of things to come. ..I feel like I'm going to puke.@nevesis

This Franchise is LONG overdue for some luck, I don't even know if this team ever picked 2nd. We didn't just lose in 05, we got BURNED... Its time for some luck to come our way. I'd gladly even take number 2. Try to be positive fellas. @NYRKING30

This thread is god damned classic. We are a bunch of miserable ****s. I love it. @Synergy27

Devils def won it @Vinny DeAngelo

We will be blessed with #2. Kakko. @Larrybiv

Ray Shero laughing, Devils win 1st overall confirmed @Krams

Nah, he needs a new team
spoken like a naysayer who can't acknowledge water is wet.
Nieves stays
vets go, led by Namest

In that post I’m using the 14 pick we get from a hypothetical Kreider to Arizona trade

I didn’t even factor in the other potential picks
we could be dripping in 1sts

Kreider may indeed be moved, tho I give him a better chance of staying, esp if we want to entice Panarin

Kreider is an indulgence for AZ
sure, he will help sell some tickets which is an immediate need, but

'yotes have better options

Kreider to Avs, where he bookends with MacKinnon, that is the package Gorton should go for, K+ for 4OA+

From Brooks: https://nypost.com/2019/04/09/kaapo-kakko-time-rangers-future-just-got-a-lot-brighter/

“I believe in karma and the hockey gods and doing things the right way,” the fairly bubbly general manager Jeff Gorton said by phone. “We talked about that a lot with the coaching staff, about how doing things the right way would benefit us in a lot of ways, and this is one them.

“This is something we needed. We made the [rebuild] announcement, sent out the letter, traded players and the fan support has been unbelievable. This is a tremendous opportunity for us. It feels great. I feel like it’s just.”

He's right. The front office committed to a rebuild. The coach and players on ice still worked their butts off and competed every night and the organization was rewarded.

We didn’t get full on Rongo’d here and it feels so good. Can’t wait for next season!

Where are the Dr. Evil “Number 2.” Memes people ? Can we get Nic Cages head on Dr. Evils body here ?!

Columbus really traded their 1st overall pick from 2002 in a long running, convoluted, multi team maneuver just to get the Rangers to 2nd on this day

The fools!

Gorton plays the long game.

Like a Sith Lord he foresaw this day, 17 years ago, from Boston.

And it’s been building and building and building ever since.

When Darth Sather’s replacement strikes him down with a hockey stick, the circle will be complete.

Long time coming... feels good!

I go back to the original six.
can't remember a ranger draft this good, and as jg said prior to the selection, nyr have not picked in the top 3 ever

yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!

closest comparable is knicks drafting ewing 1st overall
was so happy not only for the team
but also for classy guy Dave DeBuscherre

At some point we are going to have to celebrate some hideous amorphous blob that crawled out of the primordial soup of Earth and onto land

I’m still in disbelief, and I’m only 90% sure this isn’t a dream.

Anyways, I know what kind of player Kakko is, but can anyone help me out with his potential? If you could pick one player to compare him to (potential-wise, not style-wise) over the past few drafts, who would it be? I know it’s still early, but is he Matthews-level potential? Laine? Eichel? Worse?

Am I the only one who thinks #2 IS the no lose position? NJ takes Hughes, you take Kakko. They take Kakko, you take Hughes. There is no lose here. Thank You Hockey Gods for taking a night off when you usually take this opportunity to go full Bubba on our team.
