It's almost always been this way for hank too...he makes the sick saves but it all comes out in the wash because he let's softies up in the same game....this is why I don't think he's anyway near a Roy or Marty.

Well for a goalie of his caliber he's expected to make tough saves AND not give up softies. So it's a below average game for him.

By that lazy definition, he is expected to give up zero goals a night.

As an elite goalie, he has an expected SV% on HQ chances and a higher expected SV% on low quality chances. I didn't count how many of each occurred tonight, but from rough recollection he faced a bunch of the former. If he has an expected SV% of 85% for the former (which I think is probably ball-park correct) and faces 20 of them, that's 3 expected goals right there.

And I'm truly shocked that you can't take criticism of the golden boy again. I give him credit when he makes good saves or has good games. You just only focus on the negative posts because you can't stand any criticism of him.
No I just find it hilarious you don’t post much and then pop out every few weeks to basically say “I didn’t watch the game but I saw the highlights and here’s why Hank sucked tonight and lost the game on his own.” It’s repetitve and lazy.

I said myself the first and third were bad goals and should’ve been stopped. I can’t put the second or fourth on the goalie though, no way. Second was horrible D and a snipe by Sheifele on a 3-2. Fourth McQuaid slid into him as he’s trying to stop it.

No please I could see Toronto winning that and we would never be able to come on hf anymore! I’m not kidding either. Heck if they win round 1 against Boston it will be unbearable
Dude you’re right, Toronto fans will never let it go lmao

They deserved to win this game. Hank sucked.
So, if the opposing goalie sucks......they deserve to win?
If every Ranger player was honest......they would say.....yeah, we played well enough to win.......but Hank didn't play well. Sorry, I call a spade a spade.

I did say it seemed Hank didn't have any puck luck.

But that’s the problem. Hank is good at making the amazing, high-danger saves, but then lets in a softie or two.

I would imagine the two are related though. You make a ton of high quality saves and your team is under duress, you're more likely to give up a softie. That was the case for me when I played goal...granted, that was 15 years ago, and no where close to the college/semi pro/pro levels.

I was about to say, most goalies probably have a good amount of nights like that.

Yeah we thought habs fans were unbearable in 2014 the leafs fans will be just as bad if not worse if they even sniff playoff success
Like you said, it’s not even a joke. They will shove any playoff success down everyone’s throats. They are ruthless, and definitely the most annoying fans in the NHL.

We're just not used to it. Hank, for 10+ years in his prime, regularly played in games like this one and walked away with only 2 GA. He's not what he once was, but I don't think he's regressed to league average or below.

I mean sure Winnipeg is really good and stuff, but the Rangers could have easily won that game. Hank should’ve had one maybe even two of the goalies against, though he did stop a bunch of shots that prob should’ve gone in so he was basically evened out to be just normal.

McQuaid just conceding ice all night like he’s Neal Pionk or something. And on the last goal didn’t do anything then decided to slide for no reason into Hank, preventing him from making the save. I thought that was the worst game I’ve ever seen McQuaid play.

Pionk also had a rough night but these coaches love him, it seems like he’s always out there. I just find him either committing an unforced icing or getting hemmed in his zone for an extended period after failing to clear, I feel like those two things describe 90% of his ice time at 5v5.

Kreider had a tap in there to tie the game. Need to put that in. Hayes deked out their whole team and just couldn’t finish, would’ve been nice.

Zucc dumping the puck in with 3 seconds on the clock was hilarious though.

Not that be could have scored......but I noticed that. Guess he gave up or simply didn't have that CLOCK in his head. Bad play regardless, very surprising.....he usually has his head in the game, so has to be he felt it useless.

Entertaining game. Loss stinks but we all know it's whats best for business.

This 11F/7D needs to end. Is Meskannen really going to look that out of place?

Hayes played the first half of this game like he didn't want to be left behind on the team charter.

Peg has to shore up that PK if they want to make a real run.

Hank has always been the sick save goalie, but at the same time a softie server...i love him, I love his personality but for years now our backups would have had the same outcome as the high paid player like hank.

Fair enough, but I would say Hank is about league-average right now. He would need an amazing team in front of him to win a Cup. I really hope I’m wrong, and that he can bounce back in the next two seasons.

Not saying this to you, but off your point a lot of people act like Hank gives up softies non stop. The truth is it’s more confirmation bias, he’ll give one up and then you’re looking for it. The next one could come 15 games later but it’s like “ugh another softie” and now you’re rolling with the mindset that he gives up tons of softies.

It doesn’t matter bc we can all squabble over this, but you know Hank thinks he should’ve stopped all of them, he seemed so mad at himself so we know where he stands. I think it’s a shame bc he mad a lot of good saves too. Oh well. He’s been leakier than usual lately with the soft goals, but it’s hard to know how much is him and how much is a byproduct of the shoddy defense. I guess the truth would probably lie in the middle. I still see a guy who can be a difference maker behind a good team, like Rinne. Not gonna carry the team like the old days, but put a good defense in front of him and he’ll get you some extra saves and wins an average goalie wouldn’t. I still see that in him.

Truth is, this is fine for a result this season. We get a regulation loss while playing in a close game. Just sucks to lose.

Well, I did say Georgiev should have played tonight. Would have been our best chance based on the kids last game. Ride the HOT hand. Has nothing to do with Hank being subpar, old or not particularly successful against Winnipeg. I mean when, exactly WHEN will ypu give this kid a chance to run with some success?
I want to find out if Georgiev is just an average backup, or if he can string together 5-6 good games in a row. I don’t expect him to be a good starting goalie in the NHL, but a 1-B goalie is not out of the question. I still am kind of amazed at Gorton and our scouts for finding this guy and bringing him over for free, even if he only develops into a good backup.

I would say you’re probably right. I also think most goalies in general have a good amount of nights where they make plenty of amazing saves, but give up 1 or 2 soft goals.
