Colourful Canterbury Red Devils import Matt Puntureri has won five titles and been banned for life from another league.
The 31-year-old American will be trying to help Canterbury claim the New Zealand Ice Hockey League (NZIHL) title over the next fortnight in their best of three final series against the Southern Stampede, starting in Christchurch on Saturday.
Puntureri, a forward, has experienced it all in his 10-year professional career, which has mainly been spent in the US minor leagues.
In 2014, he became a YouTube hit after being involved in a staged fight in the final game of the season for his Danville Dashers team in the Federal Hockey League.
Puntureri pretended to fight friend and opponent Jesse Felten before hugging him and pulling a can of Coors Light beer from his hockey sock.
He skated around the ice, swigging beer, which drew the wrath of the league organisers, who deemed it unprofessional and a bad look for their competition.
"I actually got kicked out of the league for life," Puntureri said.
"The league hated it. That was my mastermind idea. I try to keep it creative, as much as possible, and have some fun out there."
