I'm not sure I agree with Quinn picking tonight to lay into his players.

Has the team had piss poor efforts? You betcha. Were they outworked some games? Absolutely.

Questioning the compete level of your team on the second half of a back to back (when both games were away, at that) reeks of amateurism.

3 in 4, but CBJ was also in the same position, plus they played late last night.

Still not good enough for you?

His mindset with those passes is to outplay the goalie when a teammate is with him, it usually works better than just a shot on the goalie if you don't have time to adjust.
How many times do I have to say this? What does the rest of the game have to do with a stupid play? Just because a player gets one or two goals or points, it doesn’t excuse the dumb stuff.

Why are y’all binary.

The team is ass AND I’m still not sure DQ is all that and a bag of chips.
Shouldn’t we really begin to judge him when he gets a better team? I’m not saying he’s the best coach in the world. I’m not even saying he’s that good of a coach. Maybe he is. Maybe he isn’t. But he deserves slightly better circumstances.

He was a 4th liner in the OHL.

This year, he has 40 goals and 58 points in the Turkish league.....in 11 games.

Not going to lie, I find that it’s usually for the best if I avoid game day threads.

Pretty busy right now anyway, and most of what needs to be said, or I would normally say, has already been said.
But we need you...

Team was advertised as not strong enough, not fast enough, and not talented enough. That was in the Larry Brooks beginning of the season preview. It will change. Personnel will change in the calendar year.

The D is awful. Smith should be sent to Hartford after the TDL and stay there for the next two years. Shattenkirk and Pionk should be rotating in and out the rest of the year.

Battle level was there. Effort and hard work. Beat by the better team.
I agree. It’s rare I get to watch a game live and today I was happy to be able to do that. Fun game. The Columbuses are a good team.
That said, Tortorella has a really dumb looking smirk all the time. It never bothered me when he was Rangers coach but holy crap, it’s painful to see now. His wife must tell him ‘wipe that smirk off your face’ every time he comes home.

Colourful Canterbury Red Devils import Matt Puntureri has won five titles and been banned for life from another league.
The 31-year-old American will be trying to help Canterbury claim the New Zealand Ice Hockey League (NZIHL) title over the next fortnight in their best of three final series against the Southern Stampede, starting in Christchurch on Saturday.
Puntureri, a forward, has experienced it all in his 10-year professional career, which has mainly been spent in the US minor leagues.
In 2014, he became a YouTube hit after being involved in a staged fight in the final game of the season for his Danville Dashers team in the Federal Hockey League.
Puntureri pretended to fight friend and opponent Jesse Felten before hugging him and pulling a can of Coors Light beer from his hockey sock.
He skated around the ice, swigging beer, which drew the wrath of the league organisers, who deemed it unprofessional and a bad look for their competition.

"I actually got kicked out of the league for life," Puntureri said.
"The league hated it. That was my mastermind idea. I try to keep it creative, as much as possible, and have some fun out there."

The other Turkish league legends I remember are the Russian identical twins who play together everywhere, and I do actually mean everywhere

It's a shame that DeAngelo's future is already decided by management. He could be a decent D if he puts his head straight.
I don’t think the premise is correct. I think he has shown himself to be inconsistent but there’s no reason that can’t be turned around. It’s a one-game-at-a-one thing but he now has two nice games in a row under his belt. Just keep it going. Skjei too. Both are controlling themselves better recently. Skjei has more rope but that’s totally fair. It’s up to AdA.

One goal was off a faceoff. The other was off Bob's back, a bit of a broken play. He had some chances here and there. I thought he looked out of his element in a fast game against bigger players otherwise.

Yea, I didn’t even mention that the 2nd goal was kind of eh.

My Carpeniello-inspired notes, in no particular order:

1. Nieves as the center (no pun intended) to two goals in two days, today's was eerily similar to the one Chytil banged home yesterday afternoon. Streaking down the middle, causing some trouble and getting a nice bounce. Nieves has shown more in 2 weeks than he has in 2 years. Very nice. Maybe he's a transitional piece - and I say that as a compliment.

2. Are my eyes deceiving me or am I seeing chemistry between Chytil and Strome? Man, if Strome is a keeper (even as a role player), that’s a Gorton killing with Edmonton.

3. Brendan Smith is such a stupid man. I really hate to beat a dead horse, but his presence is such a morale killer. We need to cut ties immediately. He was paid handsomely, hit the road and take that dumb looking mug with you.

Essentially three more games this month - Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday. May we be seeing the final goal for #36 in blue?
Agree with points one and two wholeheartedly. I totally see Strome and Chytil as parts of a lovely third line. And Nieves fearlessly dive-bombing the slot makes me smile. I have no issues with Smith though. He’s just not a consistent hockey player and I wish he would be.

It's not that they dont work or are lazy. They are way overmatched. They are not types who go through people. They take the finesse approach to lots of things
I think they can go through opponents. It’s just that they don’t do it consistently. I hope DQ is pushing that. They need to play more confidently. It takes time though. Maybe that’s the key.
