Well...my boy was pretty good tonight.

But those defensemen...not one keeper on that blueline, they all suck.

And Georgiev...7 goals? The last one was a real stinker, he just watched the puck move around him and in.
Excuse me?

Zucc could have had another goal, but he made a moronic play. He had a wide open net and passed it up. And of course, his pass got intercepted.

And DeAngelo had a very good game, relatively speaking. He was a +1 and made plenty of good defensive plays. In a game like tonight, anyone with a +1 played well. I don’t know how you can say he sucked. The eye test and advanced metrics both back me up.

I mean I've kind of had the same mentality.

If they win a game and they deserve to win it, its hard to be mad at that. When they win/pick up a loser point despite getting boat raced, that annoys me and its happened more often than I'd like so far.

The 9-1-1 stretch doesn't really annoy me. Even though three of them were in the shootout, they legitimately played outstanding hockey those 11 games.

I'm annoyed by the six other OT losses and the two other shootout wins in which they were boat raced.

Is AV’s “man to man” causing this?

No, but his preference for slow, immobile D and soft perimeter forwards doesn't exactly fit here.

You can't take what is almost completely his roster and expect them to play a way that doesn't fit. Effort can be controlled, but at some point theres only so much you can do with whats here.

It should though, that stretch should have been 7-4 which is still good (thats a playoff pace) but they lucked out even in the middle of all of that.

I mean they're more or less trending to a bottom 5 or lower spot right now so it's likely to be a blip in the radar, but those extra points (along with the ones you mentioned) are what are separating them from having a strong hold on a bottom 3 spot right now.

I mean a bunch of the slow, imobile defenders the Rangers had were originally “Tort’s Kinda Guys”.

How are the Rangers going to draft EK when the drafted late and meh...

The problem with Quinn thinking that is it gets me worried the front office will swing further towards toffness and grit...

They took three whacks at high upside players in the 1st round last year and did so with 4 of their 5 picks since 2017.

I don't think you need to worry about that. I'd love to have a team that is big, fast, gritty and skilled though, I don't see what the issue with that is.

I mean, yeah, it still kinda does, because every point counts.

But those 6 other OTL and 2 SO wins; IIRC they were railed in every single one of those games.

That's 10 points they had no business even looking at. That takes them from 43 to 33, absolutely buried in last place with points to spare.

Actually, though, if we wanna give AV credit for something...

If we beat Ottawa, we go to the ECF. Now that summer goes from "we're retooling on the fly" to "we were two steps from the Cup."

AV single-handedly winning that series for Ottawa accelerated our rebuild by 2-3 years.

Thanks, Alain!
Definitely a turning point

The issue is when they're playing straight up terrible players for grit.

That's fine now. Matter of fact, that's great now. McLeod is a tank Hart Trophy candidate.

But knowing the Rangers -the team that tried to ride Tanner to the promised land- they'll still be doing it if/when they're a great team.

Glass was 100000000% an AV thing.

I mean, I don't think there is a Quinn equivalent to that if we want to ignore Pionk who isn't that type of player, but a guy who he seems married to despite the results.

I'm not sure I agree with Quinn picking tonight to lay into his players.

Has the team had piss poor efforts? You betcha. Were they outworked some games? Absolutely.

Questioning the compete level of your team on the second half of a back to back (when both games were away, at that) reeks of amateurism.

Still not good enough for you?

His mindset with those passes is to outplay the goalie when a teammate is with him, it usually works better than just a shot on the goalie if you don't have time to adjust.

Girardi wasn't. Haley wasn't. Rupp wasn't. Trading Zubov for Samuelsson wasn't. Trading literally anybody good besides Leetch/Graves/Messier for literally anybody big at the '94 deadline wasn't.

The Rangers are to toffnuss as the Flyers are to bad goaltending, the Predators to defense, and the Pens to being gifted generational talents.

It's team culture at this point.

It can go away, but I'll believe it's gone away when I see it. Trading for Adam McQuaid doesn't give me much confidence it will.
