The people who blamed Ben for those issues were mostly just Tomlin jock riders. They’d blame anything before pointing the finger at Sir Aviators.

Didn’t ESPN have a show where they replaced a HS head coach with a famous football player? I think Butkus did it somewhere in PA. Montour?
Yep. Dick Butkus coached Montour. Totally forgot about that.

Yeah, his very little focus on football just took an even further nose dive.

He was also in Miller Lite commercials with Bubba Smith

Don't recall them.

All the football I watched as a kid in the 90s and all I can remember are the "bad things man" commericals that had Hopper talking about guys like Bruce Smith and Hardy Nickerson.... can't even remember what it was for... Nike?

Anyway, with Butkus, he was known as the meanest SOB to ever lace up on the gridiron. Yet I think of him as this kindly diner owner from My 2 Dads instead.

If McDaniel can't get anything out of him then he's for sure a lost cause
Nailed it. This is legit a last shot for Claypool because of who the coach is. If he can't be productive in Miami, he can't be productive anywhere.

Amazing how much Claypool managed to tank his value in less than one year. Although the fact he was worth a 2nd to Chicago and reportedly Green Bay was kind of asinine to begin with. Realistically he was probably only worth a late pick last year but teams were desperate. Th Bears getting anything for him at this point is a minor miracle. I thought he'd be going on waivers for sure. Just shows some team will always be willing to gamble on physical traits. He still has size and athleticism if nothing else.

It'll be interesting to see how he does in Miami. It's a great offensive system. He'll be playing with a good passing QB for once. On one hand he'll have two great WR's pulling coverage away from him and will get easier match-ups but on the other hand he likely won't get a high volume of passes thrown his way due to the two star WR's needing to be fed the ball so much.

I saw that Denzel Mims got signed to the Steelers practice squad earlier this week. That's an interesting signing. He was in the same draft class as Claypool. He's another talented WR that hasn't been able to put it together in the NFL.

R.I.P. Dick Butkus. Man, I miss those old school style players like him and Jack Lambert etc. They were a different breed.

I have to think that the environment (not the team one) in Miami is not going to help Claypool one bit. He's going to embrace the flash/lifestyle and make things worse.

I never saw or even knew about this. Just read this:

In 2005, Butkus was the head coach of Montour High School’s football team for an ESPN reality show called “Bound for Glory.”
Butkus coached the Spartans to a 1-6 record and left the team before the end of the season because he “fulfilled his contract.”
That had to be a moment of true motivation for the kids.

One reason Miami's offense works as well as it does is that, atleast for now, all their skill players are fully bought in. Like Tyreek goes 100% on motion and clear routes, something that not many star players do, like Deebo in SF. As a depth piece Claypool will be asked to do even more stuff like blocking and clear routes which... good luck, I guess.

Claypool is a tall receiver who doesn't have the instinct to high point a football. It's a waste. He isn't that talented, honestly.
Agreed. He's really just a one trick pony. With the right QB he could be awesome. I don't think Tua is that guy though. He would have done better in KC with Mahomes but they already have a bunch of #3 receivers.

I remember watching it in HS. Butkus looked like he really didn’t want to be there lol
I remember watching 1 episode and it being so lame that I totally forgot about it until now.

I pretty much expect to see KP keep regressing this year and by Tomlin foolishly keeping Canada around another year, they are stuck with this offense.

So removing Canada won’t change much this season IMHO.

Sunday could be another disaster in the making.

Ravens are top 3 or 4 agt the pass and they are getting their pro bowl corner Humphrey and starting safety Williams back tomorrow.

What could go wrong?

What sealed it for me with Claypool was when he was directly responsible for one of KP’s first INT’s. A small corner outplayed him for a ball while he was doing his typical falling backwards style of catching.

Infuriating and sealed wanting him gone at that point.

Mine was the celebration as they were marching down the field. To have that level of unawareness, selfishness, or just plain ignorance are all unforgivable when you are a professional. At that moment he became totally useless.

Maybe I’m not recalling correctly but I swear his calling card and the first few games when he showed something was downfield, high-pointing contested balls, using his big body and athletic ability. Then he started the whole falling down thing. Just such a bizarre progression by the player that the coaches couldn’t or wouldn’t fix.

I remember Steelers fans were defending Claypool and blaming Pickett on that INT

Logically speaking there is very little reason to think they are going to be competitive tomorrow and this is absolutely the type of situation where Tomlin's teams show up and surprise.

There's next to no chance that they are going to get rid of Canada during the season no matter how bad things get, and the real problem with that is that they then will go another year with Pickett next year when Canada inevitably gets canned in January. Maybe he becomes something with a real OC, but there's very little reason to think Pickett is going to be a good NFL QB and it'll be 2025 at best before other options are even considered.

Yep, zero chance they give up on KP until the end of next season, as you need at least three years to evaluate most QBs.

Almost every good QB has a bright offensive mind helping them develop, and Tomlin being too stupid to understand that made a colossal mistake bringing Canada back for a lame duck season.

I agree this is one of those eye-roll worthy Tomlin “rally the troops” games, but it’s just a cycle he creates with his own incompetence.

Then the fans and media fall for it every time.

It’s tiresome and old.

Wait - the QB that sPitt brought in to start is being converted to a TE? Seriously? My god, that’s hilarious.

I know I’ve said this before, but I am incredibly grateful to a PSU fan. I can’t imagine how bad being a Pitt fan must suck right now, especially with their hated rivals being a combined 9-1, the only loss being WVU to PSU
I went to PSU recently enough to be there when they restarted the rivalry and never think about Pitt. And my dad went to Pitt. And I love one upping him. Your obsession with getting off over being better than Pitt is weird as hell.

Franklin is a Tomlin, we haven’t done shit. This year is getting my hopes up though.

PSU grad here but never followed college football. They did win the national championship one year I was there.

Many Penn State fans are a disgrace as we've seen in recent years.

I can't believe I never came to that realization until now  It's so true. Luckily cheerleader type coaches have a better chance of working in college than they do the NFL.

I don't think PSU can beat both Michigan and Ohio State this year, though. They'll do well to beat 1 IMO.
