The more I think about it, the more I would just go out and get Patrick Surtain, if I were Khan. We suck so badly at developing secondary players, we should just trade for proven ones. I don't see us ever drafting much better than him. That then slots everyone in perfectly.

Other teams would certainly be in on him
What do you think the cost would be? Gotta be at least a 1st rounder...

That’s the biggest problem I see with Surtain. If it just needed to be a first like with Minkah? That’s a no brainer — you get one of the best young corners in football and potentially have a lockdown duo with him and Porter for the foreseeable future.

But you gotta think it’d be something like the Ramsey trade to Rams which was two firsts and a fourth. That’s a big price which I probably wouldn’t want them to do, but I’d still be tempted

I'd say a 1 and 5 in 2024 and a 3 in 2025. If a team gets him for anything less than that I'd consider it a steal, and I'm probably being a bit light. He's a young elite corner. It'd be nice if Denver wanted a player from us to ease the draft pick compensation.

Two firsts only gives me pause because if this offense sucks, it doesn't matter how good the defense is. If the offense was showing progress, I'd jump all over two 1sts. We may be drafting in the top half of the draft with how bad this offense is and them seemingly doing absolutely nothing to fix it.

It's a dream scenario, but your defensive spending at that point is out of hand. I would rather sit put with the D until offseason. Trice and Rush are interesting prospects for next season as well.

They will win 9 games regardless of the offense again tomlin did it with Mason and Duck. They got minka that year. Denver needs as much cheap labor as possible since they are going to try and dump Wilson next summer and go with May or Penniex

I know Denver is bad and will probably move some guys, I just don’t see Surtain getting dealt. He’s a young stud corner. Those don’t grow on trees and usually aren’t the guys you deal unless they have made it clear they want out, which I don’t believe he has done.

He is really there only trade piece to recover the assets they gave up for Wilson and Payton

I know a few people were high on him coming out a few years ago.

Still a decent career for a local guy.

That Michigan LB corps looked awesome in college. They all sucked.

Trice and Rush have never been healthy in their entire football careers. Wish in one hand, shit in the other. I can tell you which one fills up faster.

I have no problem with them spending a bunch of money on defense if the defense performs. They are going to need to keep games very, very close for this offense to get them over the hump.

I don't think it would be. Surtain is in his 3rd year as a first round pick. Thus he is signed for this season (2023) and next season (2024). And if the Steelers pick up his 5th year option, which they obviously would, he would be signed at cost controlled rate of 16.8mil for 2025.

By 2026, the cap will be up drastically, plus Cam will have retired.

If the Steelers can get Surtain for a 1st plus some other mid picks. They should do it. If this would be more on the order of the Ramsey trade to the Rams, man it is tough. If they could do a 1st+3rd 2024 then a 3rd or 4th 2025.......

He won’t recoup what they gave up for those guys though. They gave up 3 firsts and 3 seconds plus more to get those guys. Surtain could maybe get them a 1st and 3rd… that’s not close to recovering what they gave up

Pretty cool throwback article

I kind of look at the story from a different perspective than most.

He was wise enough to put in the work to ace the combine when few people were smart enough to do it.

That decision made him a millionaire. Ultimately I doubt he has any regrets TBTH.

A whole new cottage industry also rose up because of what he did, making a lot of ppl bank.

He had a respectable career, he didn’t ask the Eagles to move up and take him, and he wasn’t a bust ala Mandarich, Leaf etc like so many make him out to be.

Pretty sure he sleeps well at night in his fancy home, despite the naysayers.

Oh I agree. Mamula had a fairly decent NFL career. Not great but not a bust either.

And also agree he had the foresight to do what no one had even thought of before. I mean Steve Jobs didn't get rich by copying his predecessors either. Good on both of them for making bank

Ya who gives a f*** how you make your millions as long as it isn’t illegal or takes advantage of others, etc

He saw an opportunity and became a millionaire, got my respect.

I have more respect for him than Sapp, who is mostly why Mamula gets so much flak.

Eagles wanted to replace White and Sapp slid all the way to the Bucs at 12 because he was human garbage.

Sapp got his SB ring and and HOF career, great, but like Kris Jenkins said:

He's ugly, he stinks, his mouth stinks, his breath stinks, and basically his soul stinks too

Excepr Apple did steal ideas from other companies to become successful lol.

I don’t think Trice will play another down of meaningful football. I hope I’m wrong.

Patrick will get the Ramsey package

How are the Browns still a good team despite ruining themselves to get the masseuse assaulter?
Elite defense. Hired an actual smart mind as an assistant in Jim Schwartz instead of some random stooge like Feekner or Keef Butler. Myles Garrett likely DPOY (sorry but it’s true).

I said this when we drafted him. Impossible to get excited for a guy who has literally never been healthy. Unless they plan on letting him skip camp, practice, and only play a low percentage of plays. Other than that, he's always going to be hurt. Some dudes just have it like that.

2nd/3rd round talent...7th rounder for a reason.

The Ramsey package was two firsts and a fourth… 2 firsts isn’t even half of the amount of firsts they gave up, and that doesn’t even begin to talk about the second rounders they gave up. Surtain isn’t getting dealt unless a team absolutely blows them away
